Info needed on Thater brushes

I'm a bit frustrated. I like my brushes with large lofts, measured above the lip of the handle. I've heard that Thaters are excellent brushes, and I am aware that they come in knot widths of 28, 30, and maybe even 32mm. However, the frustration comes from not being able to find out the loft of these larger brushes. I like the clear handle models. Is there an obscure website somewhere, or some other resource where I can look up the dimensions of these brushes? Ordering one without knowing the loft measurement is like shooting in the dark. Spending around $200 to $300 on something with only partial information is something I prefer not to do! Thanks in advance for any helpful information! :biggrin1:

Straight Razor Design has lofts listed for Thater brushes. I'd still call or email to make sure the brush has the loft you want.

Well, it seems that the Thaters that SRD has in stock are all 59mm or less. Now you can see why I'm frustrated. I have an theory or maybe just an illusion that somewhere there is a Thater website catalog that might be available for viewing without the necessity of taking the luck of the draw on any given retailer's existing stock. If I could look at Thater's catalog of available products, then it would be a simple matter to find out what the range of available lofts might be. If there was a manufacturer's website, a prospective customer could use the "contact us" link to ask them this question, if there was no catalog available for that purpose.

In my experience (9 Thäters) the published specs understate the knot diameter and overstate the loft; it may be they measure at the base of the knot instead of at the top of the handle. While I can't say if you'd get the same dimensions with a new brush, the following are my measurements for the 49125-2, 3 & 4 using a digital caliper. The -2 is 29-52.4 the -3 is 30.3-52 and the -4 is 32.8-54 In terms of density and the quality of the hair, I find their brushes to be remarkably uniform. If they ever make the 2-band bulb with the oxi-plexi handle I'll end up buying 3 more.

If you are prepared tp spend good money on a wonderful brush, make sure and check the warranty.I have a 24MM and 30MM Thater ,both superb brushes in every respect.I purchased mine direct from Germany ,and the vendor stated brushes shipped to America will have void warranties. There were a few threads on this awhile back on this forum. If Thater does not warranty their brushes shipped to the U.S. I certainly will not by another, regardless of quality, mistakes do happen !..

For some reason, I don't think they make Thaters with a loft anywhere above 59mm, unless it would be a special order or something. That would let me out of the likelihood of ever having a Thater. I've had brush issues, and tend to prefer a good warranty on an expensive brush. I'm pretty satisfied with the brushes I've got, but one never knows when the bug might bite me again.

I just bought the 49125/2 in 3-band and am looking to get it in 2-Band - prepare to spend money on 3 Thäters in 2-band soon :001_tt2:

According to this site, they can deliver ANY Thäter in 2-band at a 20% extra price circa......

It says that you can pretty much get ANY Thäter brush in 2-Band at a 20% extra cost.
You need to contact them regarding this, as it will be a special order.

Just got an email from the vendor - he can sell you all Thäters in bulb or fan shape in 2-band quality for 20% extra price.
PM me for details......

I'm curious as to why you'd want such a tall loft. I think it would turn even their 3-band bulbs into floppy mops. These brushes have extremely soft hair without even a touch of scritch and there have been some critical comments that they don't have any scrub and need more backbone; both of these issues would be materially worse with a high loft.
