A few months ago I made my son a shaving stand, knowing full well a few coats of wipe-on poly offered minimal protection against water damage. So, last week, making good on a promise, I finally waterproofed it, sealing the wood (bird's eye maple and gaboon ebony) in a hard, crystal clear, epoxy shell. Not only is the stand now watertight, the brilliant, new epoxy luster kills the old satin polyurethane finish by a mile.

That inset where the bowl rests took a 3 1/4” forstner bit to drill. Didn’t know they came that big till my son said, “Look what I found.” West System epoxy formula is what I applied using a 1” foam brush from Walmart.
The stand looks great!
