My first experience with a boar brush was the VDH that comes with their soap-brush-bowl set that you can pick up for ~$11 in supermarkets.
The only good thing to say about that brush is that you can take out the knot without too much hassle and then you have a handle to experiment with different knots, if you got the time for that stuff, albeit not the most comfy handle at that either.
I thought of the SOC and the like. I saw this excellent comparison http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/295523-Omega-11137-vs-Semogue-Owners-Club and I figured that for $15 (from connaught, less than a week to get to California) I couldn't go that wrong.
First impression, it is cute little thing. It had a bit of smell, but a couple of soaks in dish soap, borax, and 2 lather-dry cycles and it is almost gone.
I gave it a go yesterday with, appropriately, Omega soap in a tub.
In short - I love it. Wonderful backbone, soft tips that feel quite different and more to my liking than badger. The handle is not bad at all either.
If that were my only brush, I don't think I'd complain much. With badger, I always think "ok, so what's next?".
I am now thinking of getting one of the bigger Omegas. Either the 10048, 10098 or 20102.
The 10048 has the biggest knot, the 10098 has the most ergonomic looking handle and TSS calls the 20102 a "monster" so how can one resist that?. Is the knot the same in the 10098 and 20102?
Has anyone tried the B&B boar of which WCS recently ran out?
I have a restore project of aluminum rubberset no4 and I thought of putting a TGN 2-band in it, but now I think of putting an omega knot, only that I want the super-dee-duper knot there.
As you can very well see, I got hooked and BAD is bubbling.
