Importing an R41 from Ireland to the U.S.

Hello B&B!
After reading countless reviews and forums I have decided to to order an R41. I don't know if it will be a 2011 or 2013. I ordered it from shaving.ie. Very excited to try this razor. Every one has said this tool was made for heavier beard growth which I have. I went with the Rose Gold to match my muhle brush and r89. I hope since I read all the scary reviews about feather blades and was able to tame those bad boys that I'll be able to do the same with this razor. I have been practicing with light light pressure and short sweeping strokes to cut my beard every morning and my shaves have improved even with the r89. Does anyone have any advice before I make my first shave with the open comb?

I can't wait to come back and let you guys know how the first shave went. Should be a week or two before I get it.

I'm interested to hear what you think of the R41 after getting used to the R89 with Feathers. I just purchased a 2011 from another member, after using a DE89 with Feathers for a wile, and have used it twice so far. If you've got heavy beard growth, I think you'll like it, but it's pretty rough on my average growth unless I've gone a few days without shaving.

They go very well together. Fantastic shaves with a 41 an Feather. As for advice NO PRESSURE!!!! Slow down and take your time.

I use feathers in R41 occasionally but prefer Astra green (SP).

Nothing scary about the R41 as long as you're paying attention to what you're doing. If you enjoy feeling the blade against your skin, you'll like it; otherwise, you probably won't.

im about to order from there also and i wish i knew if it will be the 2011 or 2013. he said all the stock is from 2013 but he also said muhle said there was no difference. i linked him to the thread here showing the differences and am waiting to hear back.

From what I've read, connaught has the latest except for the R106 which is the older version (IIRC)

I ordered mine from Connaught. It is the newer version and I have about 7-8 shaves with it. Let me tell you it doesn't disappoint! I tried an Astra blade first, then a Polsilver. Polsilvers are where it's at!
Btw, ordering from Connaught was awesome!

I have shaved with R41 (2011) using only "cold' tap water. The cold was augmented by icoloniali (with light menthol)
For me, feather makes a difference in weber, but not in R41. And loaded with an astra SP, the R41 feels smoother and just as efficient.

+1 It's about as close to using a straight razor with a DE that you can get. I like Gillette Silver Blue blades in mine. I don't like Feathers. I have the 2011 version.

Well done for choosing the R41, it's a beast that lives up to it's name! I got mine from Shaving.ie too as I live in Ireland. They are doing a special offer on their Fatips at the moment. I just got a Piccolo for a great price even though I already have a Grande!
