importance of appearance

I just received my new super adjustable in the mail today. It was an easy cleanup and I'm very happy with the razor. What I am even more happy about is how much better this razor looks on the vanity than my user grade gold tone fat handled tech. Is this sort of thing important to anyone else here? This razor just looks so much cooler in the razor stand.

Yes, to me the appearance is everything.
I want a good looking razor in my razor stand - even though it's 50 years old, having it look like it came out of the factory sometime this millenium makes me proud to own it!

It's... kind of a big deal, yes. I think most of us will say so. We don't NEED rhodium plated or solid stainless steel razors, after all.

It's very important to me as well. I'd much rather pay a bit more for a nice, shiney, perfect piece of equipment as opposed to having a user grade...if there's an option. I do have several user grade razors. Once I find my favorite one or 2 I will get them replated and sell/PIF the rest. Some folks are just fine with user grade and it never bothers them. My OCD won't allow that unfortunately.

Agreed. I mean yes, we all got into this hobby because it provides a better shave. But let's not sit here and pretend that the aesthetics and rituals surrounding wetshaving weren't a big part of the draw. A great looking razor is a part of that equation. You can certainly get the job done without one, but why in the world would you ever want to settle?

I keep all of my razors (except for 2) in drawers and boxes, stored out of sight.

The two on the counter look ok but it is always the same 2 (Futur and Vision in a Dovo stand)

It's important to me. In particular, compare the appearance of virtually any decent DE razor with a plastic cart razor. And I like the shaving area / den to look nice also. Turtle has the right idea there, for sure!

I like the look of Turtles shaving area, but my ODC would not allow for even that much stuff on the counter (not that I think Turtles area looks bad or disorganized, I wish I could have that much of my stuff out). It's really gotten worse as I get older. I don't have a ton of stuff yet, but I'll have to post a pic of my shaving area soon.

You can immediately tell when you come into my house which side of things belong to me, and which belong to the wife. My end table in the living room is perfectly neat and organized with whatever is on it...my wifes looks like her junk drawer threw up on it. Same thing in our bedroom. My night stand is almost always devoid of anything but the lamp except when I'm in bed. My meds and a bottle of water are there. My wifes side....another junk drawer vomit session. Same thing in the bathroom. Thank God for dual sinks. We haven't had that for years and I didn't think I was going to make it.
