What's new

I'm thinking she finally may be right.part 1

The spouse piped up ( no pun intended) and said that she thought that I might have enough pipe tobacco to last me the rest of my life. Now given that I will be 59 next week, and plan on many decades to come. After doing a quick inventory, I'ma thinking that this one time, she might be right...I hate it when she is right. But then, she didn't say I couldn't acquire more... wink, wink.

Look at the following pictures...do you think I have enough??
86 quart jars full
30 pint jars full
192 tins and a dozen or so ceramic humidors around as well.

A lot of this stash was when I purchased the entire inventory of a couple of old tobacco stores when the owner had passed away.

Oldest blends I have are from the 40's, the newest is at least 5 years old. All of the jared blends are at least 20-30 years old.
The first two pics are the shelves in my smoking den.
The second set are drawers 5, 4 & 3 from a large 5 drawer chest of drawers that the spouse let me have when I ran out of shelf space.

The next two are drawers #1 & 2 of the chest.

Then the four cases of quart jars...

Fridays are Fishtastic!
Party at your house  Seriously, I made a grievious error in front of my wife the other day. I was at the smoke shop buying a extra tank for my e cigarette. The guy asked me how the smoking was going. I said "I'm not smoking the cigarettes now, but there is no way I am giving up the pipe. I only smoke one bowl a day, and I have too much pipe tobacco to give up now". D'oh. Who in their right mind admits they have too much pipe tobacco in front of their wife? It was a big slip, and it will come back to haunt me.

only thing to do now is start sharing with all your friends ;)

That is one hell of a stash, brother. I hope you have a chance to smoke ALL of it before you kick off.

I have hosted a few evening pipe events and told the buddies NOT to bring any 'baccy with them, as I would supply to all. Great fun that is, especially when they load up a bowl from the '40's.
In the very first picture, you will see a pound tin of original Middletons "Cherry" blend. As best I can date it, it is from no later than the late 1940's. It is a far cry from the "cherry" blends of today. Deep, rich & mellow with just a hint of cherry flavoring.

Here is some of my real vintage collection, all from the 40's and all still very smokeable. Note the price on the store display for White Manor.
These were buried way back under a shelf in a humidor of an old tobacco shop, that I was lucky enough to procure the inventory from..

Well of course you could start selling/giving it away so you could buy more! :biggrin1:

Of course my fiancee says the same thing and I only have about 3 jars and a couple of tins. She said the same when I had three 1 oz bags. Haha.

That's the most impressive tobacco stash I've seen! Awesome!!

Out of curiosity, how many bowls do you smoke a day? I wonder that a lot around here.. I'm typically 1 or 2, more when I'm smoking with other folks, but that's not too often. I realize I need to start thinking about when to stop buying tobacco, other than the occasional thing to try. Once the concept that "aged is better" entered my head, I felt like I needed to acquire my lifetime of smoking now, and start the agin'.. It's awesome that the NEWEST stuff you have is 5 years old. Most of the "aged" stuff I have is about 5 years old, and that was from an estate purchase.. I was happy to have a 5 year jump start for that lot, and most of the new stuff I'm buying is getting cellared away for later.. what I haven't figured out is, what's the right amount to have for the future. I can look at your stash and figure that's too much for me, but at the rate I'm going.. I just need to look at that more carefully and do some projectin' ...maybe make some kinda graph or somethin' ..OK, enough rambling.. your photos got me all hopped up! Thanks for sharing!

I usually have one to two bowls on a weeknight. Weekends, more or less the same depending on what I am doing. I don't believe one can have too much. Especially given the ever increasing taxes...it will never be cheaper than it is today.
Always keep an ear to the local tobacco stores, especially the old ones. You might be able to score like I did.

I share a lot of what I have with the Sr. Citizens I know who are on fixed incomes. I restore old pipes and gift the pipes and tobacco to them. In return, I get to hear lots of great stories from yesteryear.

Oh man, I remember seeing some of that Daniel Webster in my grandfathers fishing stuff after he passed away. I was too young to know that I should keep it. I was just excited to have his fishing gear as a way to have a part of him forever! Thanks for the awesome memory!

WOW! At the rate of one to two bowls per day there's no way you can possibly get through all of that. So you have tow options:
1. Dramatically increase the amount you smoke
2. Share. Start with your B&B friends...

I visit quite a few tobacconists in my line of work, and I'll say that is as nice a collection as some of the shops I walk into. No joke! Let me know if you ever want to start thinning the herd :)

That is one heck of a collection!

I am lucky to have a wife that never says anything about my cigars, pipes, tobacco, bourbon, razors, etc.

But I always joke and tell her I can either spend my money on those things, or drugs and hookers. She laughs....

Amazing. I now have seen a stash that is larger than my own. I stopped at 120 pounds of stored tobacco, and I know that will last me the rest of my life. My hat is off to you.
