I'm not really interested in collecting ...

Those were the words I uttered a number of months ago as a newbie on the forum. At the time, I had Merkur Futur and a SuperSpeed. I had just found a Diplomat and was trying to decide what to do with it. I remember remarking, 'I'm just not interested in collecting razors.' Copierguy ended up being the beneficiary of that sentiment.

And then I saw the ABC Empire set and it was all down hill from there. The Futur is gone. The SuperSpeed remains and has been joined by many more.

I thought I'd share some photos of what I've managed to snag. Most of these have been found at antique shops and a few on eBay. But I'm cheap and patient, which sometimes pays off.

Has anybody else found themselves in a similar situation of initally thinking, I'm just not interested in collecting razors and then wound up like this?

Where do you find those razors with the scrolling on the handle? I've been seeing those in collections and I really like them. Do you shave with them?

I have indeed been in the same boat, but then the realization hit me that I really don't like collecting and I sold off almost everything. I'm really thinking about selling off my custom straight too and it isn't even here yet.

While straights are great, they aren't any better than the shaves I get with a SE and have, perhaps, a slight edge on DEs. Not enough to justify the price of razor, strop, and two $20 honings a year when $20 gets me two years worth the DE blades.

In the beginning, I always thought I would only have one razor.......

.....but now I have several. I have not yet gotten to the collecting for collecting's sake, but I will likely acquire more razors. But, the one thing I know will not change, whatever razor I ever acquire, I plan to use to shave my face, not just look at (unless I find out it's worth a million bucks - in which case I will shine it up and post it on the B/S/T forum for you guys to buy!)

Great stuff Brian DiPalma!! I have been watching your pile grow over time, and you are going at top speed!

Yeah, the collecting thing just grabs ya and then you are toast. My pile is getting way too big, yet I look at your razors and practically want em all!! You did really well hunting down the ABCs. I remember when you were asking around for one ..... ah days gone by! Now look at you - yer a heavy dood in the ABC world! CtAkim has spotted his holy grail too so ya know he is impressed!

Keep it up - there are only a few thousand left!!!!!

I keep saying I'm not interested in collecting, but I find it very hard to pass up a 40's SS at a decent price. I'm now up to 12 DE's while actually shaving with only 4.
