What's new

I'm looking for a citrus shaving cream

I fancy buying a shaving cream with a citrus scent.

I'm relatively new to shaving creams and soaps; so far, I've tried The Body Shop's maca root shaving cream and Tabac's soap stick, and whilst the smell of Tabac's soap is growing on me, I'm still not overly fond of it - I feel the scent is a bit too masculine for me, especially with the summer approaching and my inclination being more towards something fresh. However, because I just bought the Tabac soap, whilst I've almost used up the Body Shop cream, I'm inclined to buy a cream rather than a soap at the moment.

When I bought my first safety razor and blades a little under a month ago, I used www.shaving-shack.com. I live in Sweden, and I was pleased with their service - their prices seem good, and they delivered my order quickly. They offer the following shaving creams with citrus scents: Taylor's Lemon & Lime, Cyril Salter's Citrus, Cyril Salter's Lime, and Vulfix's Sicilian Lime.

I'm just looking for all of your good advice on which of these creams will suit me best. I want a clean, fresh sort of scent - I don't want something that smells too artificial or highly perfumed. There is a cologne, which I read about on here, that I am planning to buy - L'Occitane's Feu d'Orange Intense - which isn't a particularly important point, but maybe it will help somebody pick a cream to go with the cologne. My skin gets dry easily, so something with good moisturizing properties would be ideal. I'm certainly open to looking elsewhere, at other sites and at other creams - and if anyone has any good websites that I, as a European, can order and receive relatively quick shipping from, I am all eyes and ears.

Thanks!

Mmm, I know that GFT Limes and TOBS Citrus are quite good. Other than that, I wouldn't know.

If the price doesn't scare the hell out of ya, I recomend Castle Forbes lime. There isn't anything that comes even close. In my opinion, of course.

Doc.

Lucky Tiger Shave Cream is organic, and has a nice subtle orange smell. Great stuff. Can be used with or without a brush, but when used with a brush it lathers up like a bomb.

BTW, Arko makes a 'citrus' scented shave cream, as well as 'lemon'. The lemon smells like Pledge furniture cleaner, but the 'citrus' is quite good, and is, well, 'Citrusy'. Overall, the Arko creams are pretty good, low-end basic creams that do a good job. And they are cheap.

Lemon
Citrus

And their Sensitive is really quite good.

Recommended.

If you want to get some nice citrus cream without breaking the bank, try either Dettol's Fresh or Godrej's Lime. Lots of citric goodness.

If Palmolive is available to you locally, try and track down a tube of Palmolive Lemon. It has a very nice scent, and works great. It doesn't hurt that is it relatively cheap as well.

Cyril Salter has a few really nice citrus creams...Sublime which has a sort of grapefruit scent and Essential Limes which is self explanatory.

Lucky Tiger? Shave cream? Where does one find that?

Also, Cremo and Edwin Jagger Buckthorn smell slightly lemony to me.

Dettol makes a shave cream?

I'm familiar with their anti-bacterial soap (smells great and lasts forever,) and their antiseptic liquid (haven't tried it yet.)

I didn't know they were in the shaving business, too ... I'll buy almost anything with a Royal Warrant on it.

If you are after citrus, go for Salter Sublime Citrus. Period.
Seriously, this one has nice hints of grapefruit. I couldn't resist but use up my sample continuously till the end ...

Now, if you're open to the whole citrus family, ie things including citrusy/lemony/limey scents; true what they said about Castle Forbes. Although I have not been lucky enough to try it (yet:biggrin:!), it is said to be the best lime on earth, and a great performer shavewise.

Once borrowed GFT west-indian limes soap; the scent is pleasent though it was not "in your face" or "pure/genuine" lime to me, rather something "in the spirit of...". It worked wonders anyway, nice lather, cushion and slickness (but I was on a vacation so maybe the water was softer as well ...??)

There you have my 2Cts.
Should you need good Euro sources for the Salter, just shoot me a PM

Enjoy your shaves!
