What's new

I'm indecisive over whether to get a Hart Razor!

I like the no-frills look.... but it's $250! And Gugi says the edge crumbles. Anyone else experience a brittle/crumbling edge on a Hart?

I don't know DJ, the Friodur is $199 and comes with a nice wooden case. It's a beast! :biggrin1::drool:

Seriously, I hadn't heard about the crumbling edge. That would be a bummer for that kind of cash.

It's probably a nice razor, but I agree, at $250 there are quite a number of options. Frankly, at that price point, I would rather have one that's ground by somebody who has been doing it for more than 8 months.

Agreed about the high price of the Hart being a barrier to buying. When i eventually cave in and buy a new, expensive razor, the new TI 6/8 C135's topping my list.

That was the one razor that I tested, some people swear by them, so the one I used may have been one of several defective ones and that may not be a wide-spread phenomenon.
As I wrote in that review if yours turn out to be like that you should have it returned. Several of the early adopters sold theirs within few months of acquiring them at something like 30% discount. That's always an option, although I don't think it should be used for razors with functional defects.

LCDJ,

I had my third shave with the Hart Steel razor the other day and I'll have my 4th tonight. I'm trying to see how it holds up. My last shave was really, really nice.

It's a lot of money for a no-frills razor. This was my annual "tax return" gift to myself, which is kind of a stupid way to justify things, but hey... since when was I ever reasonable when buying razors?

Anyway... If you keep holding out PM me tomorrow and I'll let you know how #4 went.

Cheers

I've had a Hart for about a month now and have shaved with it approximately 10 times. I was a total newbie when I started and even tho I am still a newbie, I think the razor is nice.

I have not noticed any crumbling on my blade, tho I am not sure if I would be able to detect it visually. Seems to shave just as good now as it did originally.

That being said, I might not have any idea about how a good razor performs. I shall compare it to the Bismarck I purchased from you and update this post. I bought the Bismarck because it was a hollow and the Hart is close to a wedge. I wanted to experience something close to the extremes.
