Is it convenient/practical to use soap and brush while showering if using a classic safety razor? Or is it simply better, more practical to use canned foam/gel when shaving while showering? What would be more practical to do if while in the shower?

Try face lathering with a shave stick. I like to use a synthetic brush in the shower. Get a case for your shave stick that can protect it from getting waterlogged.

Another useful thing is to have a valve on the shower head to turn the water flow down to a trickle.

Gave up shaving in the shower when I was in my 20's (about five decades ago). Too wasteful of fresh water, more difficult to deal with crap (mirrors, wet everything, etc.). I shave right after my shower in a far more controlled setting.

I've never shaved in the shower. The thought just doesn't appeal to me. I like to shave at my sink where I can stare at my Arko stick/bowl @FarmerTan @Mike M

My best luck has been in using a glycerin soap for a "pre-shave" and putting canned foam over that. Gives a GREAT shave.... I have a well, so I figger the water recycles itself.
