I'm in love with shoulderless straights

I don't know why, I just am. My LR Harner was the first and as you would expect from such a craftsman, it shaves brilliantly. The best razor I've used to date I think. But there was something else about it. Something intangible that made me look at it differently. Since then I've bought a Hellberg shoulderless and I find that I look at that the same way. It's got a great edge and I really love shaving with it. It is a thing of beauty. I bought a Henckels shoulderless this morning on ebay and I can't wait to get it home and try it out. I don't want to take anything away from my other straights but I just seem somehow drawn to shoulderless straights. The Budell Damascus I've ordered, will be a shoulderless design.

Does anyone else have stange feelings for a particular style of straight?

I too love shoulderless razors. I like the way that the lines flow into the shank. My favorites so far. I know that it is not necessary but all the shoulderess razors that I have are 1/4 grinds.

Shoulderless is very cool looking and functional.

I really love framebacks for their performance since it resembles a full or extra hollow but the look is very appealing to me. My latest snag was a wedge frameback and whoa, heaven.:001_cool:

Oh yeah! I love their look, love shaving with them, and really love honing them!

The first razor I ever bought was a shoulderless from Bill Ellis. That's probably why I was able to glide into straight shaving with no problems.

Frameback wedge? Wouldn't happen to have a picture of that laying around?

I was wondering if someone was going to catch that. It has some heft to it and it shave amazingly comfortable.

this little wosty is a frameback wedge too. sure, its not as wedgy as a full wedge (it still has to fit in the frame), but theres no flex in it at all (unlike my rogers frameback which is super flexy).

For the sake of digging a shoulderless out I used my picture again. This has some shoulder but you'll notice a difference though.

Sorry to drudge up an old thread, but I thought it was more useful than starting a new one.

I love the shoulderless look. That's a big part of why I got what I did from Larry. Mine is a 9/16 Torrey full hollow. The blade may not be pristine, but the lines are sleek and sophisticated. It's my only straight, so far, but there's a good chance anything else I get also will be shoulderless.
