I'm Back!

After quite a few months hiatus from the world of straight razor shaving, I'm baaaaaack! Shaved off my "No-Shave November" beard tonight with a Dovo 6/8" Best Quality.

Ahh...I missed it. And yet, the same problems that made me move to only using my safety razor still plague me. So I hope to use this space as a shave journal, and hope you kind gentleman will entertain my still-a-noob-after-a-year questions.

Today's Shave
Dovo 6/8" Carbon Steel
Mystery Soap Sample (It's been so long I forgot what it was...very nice though)
Edwin Jager brush
Witch Hazel
Clubourn Aftershave (My own mixture, bourbon and Clubman)

So. I've always been able to get a better shave with my safety razor than with my straight razor. This isn't due to how sharp the razor is, I've been around long enough to know what a good edge feels like. I'm feeling the drive to start searching for that perfect shave again.
Even though its been months since I've used a straight, I suffered no nicks or cuts. But my face isn't nearly as smooth or irritation free as it would be if I used my Gillette. Next shave, which should be tomorrow, I'll try doing some XTG passes and see if that helps with the smoothness. Seriously, I have 5 o'clock shadow right after shaving.

Welcome back. Did you use any trimmer to bring the beard closer or did you go all in with the straight razor? Good job.

I went at it with the straight razor, no trimmer. It's extremely satisfying taking off a full beard with a razor. It's like a shovel! The sound is quite memorable as well.

Have you tried SE razors? To me, they are what I thought a straight razor should be like. I get better shaves from them than I do my DEs or straights.
