I began my traditional wet-shaving career striclty using straight razors. For about 3 years that is all I used. It had kind of lost its novelty, so I've been using a DE for the last several years. I hadn't shaved with a straight for probably 6 months, until I got the hankering to get back into it. I have probably 15 beautiful straight razors, so I felt bad neglecting them for as long as I did. I fortunately have always been pretty good at honing... so I touched a couple razors up on the stones to hair-popping sharpness, and went at it. Muscle memory was completely there, even though it had been some time since last using one. I really didn't miss a beat. No nicks, very good quality shave, hardly had to do many touch-ups. I guess that 3 years had engrained all the good habits... kind of like riding a bike, I suppose.
It's easier for me to shave at night. So that gives me some time to relax, and not have a bunch of stuff on my mind. That satisfactin of a good str8 shave is a simple pleaseure, isn't it?
shave well
