We have had concealed carry in Hawaii for years. Too bad they never issue any...ever.

The law in Illinois imposes many hours of training (I think it's 16 hours) and the licensing fee is quite high. Lots of restrictions on where you're allowed to carry. No reciprocity with other states.

It's better than nothing, but close to nothing.

With the high amount of training do you think that IL concealed carry permits will be excepted in other states, letting you carry there?

I moved shortly before WI gave in. In TX, guns are everywhere and places where you can't carry are extremely limited. Welcome to the 2nd Amendment IL, kind of. I'm interested to see how the implementation actually goes.

Good luck guys! :gun_bandana:

Lived in Illinois most of my life. Chicago give the rest of the state a bad name when it comes to the gun issue (but that is a whole different topic). I have been follow concealed carry talk in Illinois since I moved away. The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in December that it's unconstitutional for Illinois to ban concealed carry. So Illinois law makers waited to the last possible day to pass something.

The points I noticed are:
*16 hours of classes
*background check
*finger printing
*$160 for 5 years
*$300 for non residents
*Must have a valid FOID card (another $10)

Some of the points that did not make it in to the law (thank god):
*only valid for 1 gun
*10 round max. magazine
*can not conceal carry in any business that serves alcohol (not just true bars)

Start suing and get it cut down to size what your state is doing is making to hard for the poor. SHOOT homeless people can get a CCW in. TEXAS.

Rest in Peace
I moved from Illinois in 1966 (married and in my 20's) to get away from that anti-gun environment. I feel for people whose circumstances prohibit that choice. I raised a family, had a full career and retired in my chosen Wyoming. I have been back to Illinois twice and understand the advantages of Chicago (restuarants and museums particularly). One of the two times I was representing Wyoming Game & Fish at an Outdoor show at McCormick place. I met many terrific outdoorsmen and enjoyed it thoroughly. When I lived in Illinois, my father introduced me to Gov. Otto Kerner. He ended up in jail; I guess things haven't changed much. The second time I went back was for a class reunion in Oak Park and it was a blast! The next year we had another; this time in Jackson Hole, Wyoming!

I believe that our policy in Iowa is that they will honor the permits of any place that honors our permits. Since Illinois isn't going to recognize ours, their probably won't be recognized here.

makes sense.

Illinois does not recognize a CCW permit from any state. And they basically say on the website that it is your responsibility to find out if your IL CCW will be recognized by other states before you travel there.

There are already some instructors that you can look up for your area via the website. The bad side is that the course guidelines has not been decided.

CCW in Florida??

I think last week my neighbor's beagle got his CCW permit. It is harder to get an appointment at the DMV than it is to obtain a Concealed Weapons Permit in this state.

I thought part of the law was that IL will recognize permits from other states "with equivalent requirements for obtaining the license" or somesuch?

There's always NY... the only type of permit you can have to own a pistol is concealed carry as far as I know at this point. Several hundred dollars, lots of read tape, and 6 months to 18 months of waiting time to see if it's approved.
