Ikon Slant + Feather Blade

Love my new slant but due the time it takes (well me anyway) to align the blade I have left the blade in the razor. Went for my third shave today and there was rust!!

How does that happen??

Thanks

it will come right off though you can use a tiny dab of chrome polish or even a cleaner wax works great. even some plain white toothpaste. i have had this happen a couple times with one of my other stainless razors its not just the ikon. just nothing really abrasive

Stainless is softer than chrome or nickel plating. It is soft raw steel, not hard plated like all other razors are

Whereabouts is the rust? Is it possible that it's the blade that's rusted and stained the razor? I had this happen with my Tradere because the head design didn't allow the blade to air-dry properly, loosening it slightly after use solved the problem.

I believe it's the blade rusting not the razor. It's being transferred to the razor. Just dunk the head in alcohol before putting it away and you'll be good.

Same thing happened with mine; I "scrubbed" the spots with a dry hand towel and all is well. I blame it on the blade not drying completely between shaves. I am not interested in taking the blade out after every shave so I can live with a little extra maintenance at blade change time. I really, really like the razor though; none of my other DE razors deliver the same quality of shave in two passes. As always, YMMV.

Thanks for all the advice (as ever here on B&B). It did come straight off and probably could not air dry. I normally take blade out and rinse and dry my razors so I guess I am going to have to learn how to get the blade aligned with as little fuss as possible!! Will watch the iKon video again.

once you figure it out its really pretty easy. before i shaved with the slant i tried a few times just to tighten the blade while getting it even. after just a few tries i could do it almost every time.

It is NOT rust! It is called a "tea stain" which occurs usually as a result of hard water and blade residue. Take an old, soft toothbrush with some toothpaste and scrub the stain. It should disappear rather quickly.

I have never seen a speck of rust in the Feather AS-D1 / Feather blade combo. I recently left the combo together after a shave for 30 days as a test....no rust. All I do is rinse in water and shake.

The Feather razors are stainless razors that are plated, while Ikon razors are unplated stainless razors.
