If you had to choose-Mach III vs Fusion, and Why

Just curious as to opinions. I have started traveling alot lately and the hassle of checking a bag for de blade purposes is starting to get weary. For my home shave i use a merkur HD, feathers, and aos unscented.
IMO the fusion is slightly less irritating and shaves a tad closer. I choose these two for comparison as they are the ones i use somewhat regularly when i dont whip out the brush, etc. With either the mach III or the fusion i tend to use the new dye and fragrance free fusion cream (canned goo). Although i know the prep is important as the razor, for me i cant stomach pairing great prep with a cartridge, seems offensive to the prep.
Thanks.

I could never be forced to choose between those two monstrosities!! EEK!! I would rather not shave than subject my face to that junk.

If I have to go cartridge, I would pick a Trac II: superior to the Mach 3/Fusion in every way: less irritation, less chance for ingrown hairs, and the prices for carts are more reasonable. (roughly .50 cents each for the Personna brand carts).

I like the Fusion only because it's newer and delivers more shaving 'technology'. They are both good razors for what they are. I prefer the manual versions to the vibrating ones but overall they are all good products for me.

When I use a cartridge I still use a cream or soap and my brush. With all the wonderful creams and soaps out I have stopped using canned foam, even when travelling.

I would go with Mach 3, because it has 1 less blade and creates less friction than the 4 blade on one side Fusion.

Where do you guys find a razor to fit trac II cartridges, all i ever see at the brick and mortar stores are cartridges, no razor.

I haven't seen them myself yet, but some of the guys mentioned on another thread that you can get a razor called the "Bump Fighter" at Walmart. They said to toss the blades that come with it and use the Trac II or Persona II cartridges with it. I plan to check it out when I need to travel.

Well, there's this. Also this one. Haven't used either.

My Atra razor wasn't bad. I still have the old original handles, but I understand that the Vector Plus handle will work.

For all of the above, get the generic cartridges. Cheaper than Gillette, and at this point, probably better.

I just check the bag with my DE blades, but I don't fly all that often.

[Edit] I might still be using my Atra, but I started looking at Mach III, Quattro, and Fusion. That led to the realization that DE razors were still an option, and here I am.

The only positive I can say for the Fusion is that it has the 5th blade on the back, which I find to be perfect for shaving under my nose.

Just as a clarification the fusion has 5, yes 5! blade in the face and 1 on back for a total of 6 blades.

If I had to choose between those two, it would be either, I can get an irritation free (and boring) shave with either.

How does the trac II compare to the gillette sensor, ie the original two bladed one. Theyre both two blades with a lube strip, any thoughts?

Dr. Idiot sells a few Trac II handles through his ebay store. He has a Feather branded Trac II handle that I have been eying.

Here is Dr. Idiot's E-Bay Store:

If I had to choose, I would choose to slash my wrists with my last DE blade rather than have shave with either.

M3... no particular difference in the quality of the shave between M3 and fusion. Only real difference in my mind is the production cost and price. That said, I was never really sold on my M3. The swivel head was kind of nice, but as other's have said, the sensor was good and would be a better choice if forced to go with a cart.

I'd go with the Mach 5.
