If my wife likes Mont Blan Legend, she will love (fill in the blank)

Greetings all - first post in this sub-forum. My wife's sense of smell is sensitive, to the point that the wrong scents really irritate her sinuses. I've slowly come to realize that my favorite aftershaves (Clubman, the Veg, etc.) are not going to earn me any points, so I've switched over to a lightly scented ASB that she likes (C&E Nomad). The scent from that fades pretty quickly, so I want to follow up with a EdT.

We happened to be at Belk's yesterday, so we stopped by the men's fragrances to sample a few. Of the ones that we tried - Mont Blanc Legend, Giorgio Acqui di Gio, and several Chanel offerings (Platinum, Bleu, and something else), as well as Burberry (Brit?), she like the Mont Blanc Legend the most. She referred to its "subtleness" as a hallmark. Not sure if "subtleness" means projection, or something else.

On the way home, I asked her to describe her likes and dislikes in men's fragrances. She said that she likes floral scents, and vanilla. She does not like citrus scents or woodsy scents (she has allergies).

I'm thinking that she picked up on germanium in the Mont Blanc, based on reviews I've read. By the way, my sense of smell is NOT anywhere near as discerning as hers.

OK, so getting to the point - I have a local mom and pop shop that specializes in fragrances, and carries both classic fragrances as well as the department store fragrances. I'd like to visit there before making a decision, but would like to narrow the choices down so that I can reduce the chance that my wife will sniff something that really irritates her. So, if my wife really likes the Mont Blanc Legend, what other men's fragrances do you think she would like - classic or modern?

Thanks tehtimmeh. We did try out the Platinum Egoiste (I'm assuming that's the only Chanel Platinum), and I think she liked that second best. Didn't try A&F (wasn't there).

Just to be clear - I'm also interested in scents that may not be like the Mont Blanc Legend, but fit the scent profiles that she stated preference for (florals, vanilla).

Finally - stupid question - somewhere I saw Legend listed as a fougere - that's a broad category, right?

Pretty much, fougere is as broad as you'd like it to be, so don't worry about that.
You recognized that she likes vanilla and floral combination. You have a lifetime to search for a best floral vanilla out there.
In the meantime try Acqua et Zucchero (it does have some orange blossom in it!) it's very nice (anyway).

OK disregard the recommendations I made because they are both pretty close to Legend in terms of of scent. Fougere is a very broad category as there are many subcategories that exist under the fougere umbrella. Almost anything can be classified as some type of fougere, so literally thousands would fit the bill.

I will say that Legend is a far cry from a fougere in the traditional or classic sense of the title.

Classic- try Caron Pour un Homme
pretty much a straight lavender and vanilla

Aqua Quorum is nice. It lists freesia, lavender, geranium, grapefruit, amber, oakmoss and leather

Bogart pour homme also might fit the bill

If you want something gourmand try Rochas Man or HM by Hanae Mori

All can be had inexpensive, less than 30

for some reason versace dreamer comes to mind, its tobacco but comes across as a sweet floral, perhaps prada infusion l'homme thats a very clean subtle iris scent. I think dior homme is mostly iris and amber/chocolate (smells like lipstick). there are tons of vanilla scents out there, just search for anything schad likes :biggrin1:
