If it matters to you: The new Proraso formula still contains SLS

I myself am not particularly hung up on the presence of SLS as a shave soap/cream ingredient (common in less expensive products such as VDH soaps, Erasmic soap, and old-version Proraso), but I'm curious: Proraso has removed parabens and some other potentially objectionable ingredients from its new formula, and it's sometimes advertised as no longer containing SLS (for example, see below and on The Sharpologist), yet the new formula DOES INDEED contain SLS (see below, which corresponds to the ingredients listed on my recently obtained new-formula green tea + oat). Proraso may have switched to a supposedly less-irritating type of SLS (see http://www.highlandmenscare.com/gensym-1.html#S ), but if SLS is objectionable to you, then take note.

Where is SLS listed in the ingredients, I don't see it.
I see Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, but that is not SLS and isn't related to SLS.
SLS is Sodium Laurel Sulfate.

I think his point was that it still contains a synthetic surfactant. He was just unaware that SLS is a different compound from the carboxylate used now

There's a lot of synthetic ingredients in that list, but SLS isn't one of them.
The title of the thread indicates that Proraso has SLS, which (for some reason) some people wish to avoid.
If one wishes to avoid all synthetic ingredients, then a thread could made for that point.

For the edification of those folks who like Proraso - No, it does NOT contain SLS.

FWIW, I would rather that they stuck with SLS than use INCI

My phillosophy on all this parabens hoopla is ...

Life is a degenerative process, none of us are getting off the planet alive!

So be reasonable, have fun, and quit worrying about all this nonsense. It is a sign of the times that we spend so much intellectual and emotional energy on this crap -- we have nothing better to worry about? The horrific stories from Hurricane Sandy have put paid to that notion. Hug your kids and your dog, survey your house, not matter how small or how messy and start thinking of it as 'your castle', go outside and sniff some fresh air and think about how good it is to be alive, and quit worrying about whether your shaving cream is gonna kill you!

If you are worried about that crap, PM me, you can send me your old shaving lather products, I like to live dangerously! :wink2:

Thanks for the helpful correction. From what I read (for example, the link, as well as other online sources), the listed ingredient is "nearly" the same thing, so I appreciate the correction. I myself like the new Proraso and don't worry much about such a thing, but a significant number of people do.

This thread has me considering having a double cheeseburger for lunch today. Followed by pizza and beer tonight! I like to live dangerously.

One of those products bugs my skin but I don't know which!
I'm thinking it might be EDTA.
Anyway, It's so hard to tell what's going to be a problem these days.
I'll just have to try them all to find out.

Sodium Laurel Sulfate really irritates my skin. I avoid hand soaps and shampoos that contain it when possible. I like the new Proraso. I don't care a hoot about wether it has synthetic ingredients or not. In fact, most of the "natural" soaps really irritate my face. Proraso doesn't. The ingredient sodium lauroyl sarcosinate doesn't irritate my skin at all--so I'm happy with Proraso.
