ID help please

Hi all,
I have been given this which was my father-in-law’s. Was told he picked it up some time in the 60’s. From what I can find out, I think it’s a 1958 #70 (http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/One-Piece solid guard bar/1960 Gillette No70 Set England.JPG), but I have fallen down a bit of a rabbit hole trying to ID it. Looks like it is a miss match with the case though.

Can anyone confirm or correctly ID it? Has Brit pat 694093 on the inside Where the blade is/goes, Gillette made in England at the underneath. No marking of I or II or III that I can see. If I am correct about the case, any ideas where it is from?

Hannah's Dad

I Can See Better Than Bigfoot.
It’s a British-made 4th Generation Gillette Aristocrat. One of the smoothest TTO razors ever made. The case it came in determines the set number (#22,#66, #70), and the latter was all nickel. The first two were rhodium-plated handles and nickel heads. Enjoy!

Thanks Hannah's Dad. First time I've used a blade like this. Definitely a different type of shave to the cheap shop razors. It's going to turn into a family heirloom I think. Appreciate the confirmation that I was on the right track, although I did think the case was wrong. Glad it was me that was wrong.

I'm new to this. Does anyone recommend specific blades to be used? Or are the ones at supermarkets pretty much the norm and o the same? I'm in Australia in case that changes recommendations.

I would get a blade sampler pack and try some different blades that work for you. I routinely used the Wilkinson Sword blades from Woolies. A bit dear but they work fine for me.
