ID/evaluation needed: New goodies

Hello all,

The postman just delivered a package of goodies from Whipped Dog and now I need help identifying and evaluating them.

First off, an unseen-flawed:
"Original Pipe Razor" - on scale
"Union Leader" - one side of tang
"Voigt V.S. Co, St Louis" - other side of tang
"M.I. Germany"

It measures 5/8"

Any clue on the grind (sorry for the poor photography, it was the best of many.)?

General evaluation as a beginner's razor?

And number 2: An unseen.

"Case Brothers, Little Valley N?" - on tang

Measures 5/8"

Any clue on the grind (sorry for the poor photography, it was the best of many.)?

General evaluation as a beginner's razor?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

They won't win any beauty contests but should be more than good enough to shave with.

What kind of evaluation are you looking for? The first looks like a half hollow, the second maybe 1/4 hollow- but the pics are too blurry to really tell ;)

The first one looks like either a 1/4 or 1/2 hollow, but it's a little hard to tell; on the second one, the pics are too blurry to tell for sure, but it's likely the same grind. Larry's sight unseen deals tend to be something of a hollow grind variety. For taking a picture of it head on, I would hold it up against a lit background. Laying it down will cast a shadow and make the picture hard to see.

As the first one goes, that one is going to be a rescale/rebuilt razor from parts. Chances are, Larry had a pipe razor (Wostenholm) with good scales and a bad blade; conversely, the Union Leader blade was probably a good blade/bad scales. So, he takes the good parts and assembles them to make a razor. It won't hurt the shave or razor quality by any means, but it'll definitely be a unique piece for sure.

As promised, "better" pictures of the grinds...

First the black "Original Pipe Razor/Union Leader" frankenrazor.

(NOTE: To protect Larry's reputation this was an "unseen - flawed" razor.)

And the yellow Case Brothers razor:

While these aren't beauty queens they are certainly growing on me. It may be my twisted personality but there is a certain rakish cache' to shaving with disreputable razors.

So gentlemen, any better guesses to the grinds?

Thanks for all your help!
