@quixoticduck , as a newbie myself I am still learning. My understanding is that ingrown hair is the result of an incomplete cut, which causes the hairs to become ingrown. Not knowing which blade causes the most irritation makes it difficult to make recommendations.
At first I was terrified of sharp blades such as Feathers. But a sharp blade will cut clean.
I also notice the Merkur 23c comes with either an open or closed comb head design. Simply changing the head might be the solution.
You mentioned you have dry skin, so a toner and aftershave balm such as Nivea might also help. Many of us use the left-over shaving cream as an aftershave balm, as a glycerin and lanolin based soaps are great for your skin.
