I wanna Wok this way

My curse is that I am stuck with cooking on an electric range. Which brings the question, "Will a traditional round bottom wok work on that?" I know that there are flat bottomed woks for use on electric stove tops, but I may as well keep using my cast iron in that case. Anybody using a wok on electric stove tops?

Unfortunately, the best answer is no. The round bottom woks rarely work well on a gas range with the ring, as most woks require more heat than a gas range is able to provide. On an electric range, the ring provides little to no contact to the heating element. You could certainly use the round bottom wok on an electric, but would have to have one hand on all the time without using the ring. Having access to an actual wok, I have never been able to mimic its awesome effect on any western cook top (flat bottoms included.) Traditional woks just put out too much heat to ever go back.
