What's new

I, too, need a hat...

SlageRock's post made me think. I'm not a huge fan of baseball caps any longer (my wife thinks I look good in them though :blushing:) and I've been thinking of a casual hat as I am balding at an impressive rate.

I like ivy caps and I like the way they look on me. Such as this one:

Problem is, I don't know anything about hats. Any of you gents know of any brands that make good ivy caps, or hats in general, that won't kill my wallet? Nothing over $150, but I want quality craftsmanship that will last.

Miller hats may be a place to start. May I recommend you check out:

The folks there are quite helpful and can steer you to what you want. Though I have a few flat caps, I'm more of a fedora wearer so my flat cap expertise is limited. There are many flat cap folks at "the lounge" that will help you.

I picked up a couple by Borsalino, about 70 bucks. There are tons at the 40$ range also. Get to a real hat shop if possible.

I like that. I'm leaning towards this Bailey:

Now the trick is finding a hat store near me. Can't be that difficult being so close to DC, but I would prefer not to have to go into the city. Would be fun. SWMBO loves to try hats out on me, so maybe I'll take her with me if I find one.

I love my Christy's linen cap that I wear when not wearing a suit; in which case, I switch to my boater.

What amazed me about going to a real hat shop was the fit of each hat. Even hats the same size made by the same company did not fit exactly the same. I went with one khaki and one blue - two colors I wear the most once I thought about it. My wife loved the hat shop too. We had a lot of fun.
