Okay so like alot of you guys out there when I started this hobby the first real shaving cream I could get my hands on was C.O. Bigelow. One day i decided I would check out Bath and Body Works Colognes and saw the Bigelow and knowing it was re-branded proraso I had to have it.The One thing that almost prevented me from buying it is the fact that the Old formula proraso had SLS in it ,and I am sensitive to it (I might as well say allergic). It was deffiently better than what I had been using previously and it did not seem to be causing me any issues. I later bought 2 razorock products that didnt have SLS and I liked those but I still used proraso most of the time. Now my collection has grown and I use other products Like TOBS Jermyn Street and Nuka shave cream. A few months ago after one of my classes I went to the large mall across the street and went into Bath and Body works. I wanted to see if they had any new Formula Bigelow and sure enough they had it but only in the small tube. I was excited because Now I could use proraso without any worries of it messing up my skin. I actually think the New formula preforms better than the old one and I do agree that it has a different scent but not by that much. Now lets get to the part that matters and that is my final decision on proraso but first a short story.
So I recently got a new job in which I work the night shift and dont get home until 10 or 11 o clock. This means I Didnt shave for a few days. When i finally had time to shave i decided to try using Proraso(Old formula) brushless and I didnt like the results so I washed off the cream and Pulled out my small tube of the new formula and began to whip up a lather. I continued my shave using my Parker SR1 with a Lord Super Stainless Blade. The result was a very good arguably BBS shave with a small burn from my aqua velva Ice Sport. My latest shave I used the Old Formula shave cream(i am trying to get rid of it) and added some glycerin to it. I Shaved with the Parker Shavette with a Big Ben Blade in it (Made by Lord) and I noticed that While I was shaving my chin after my razor took the lather off i could see that my face was red. I should have stopped there but i soldiered on and finished the shave and did my usual aftershave routine. Let me tell you this I will not be using any of the Old formula proraso ever again and will try even harder to not buy products with SLS in them. I will be putting together a Starter Kit soon that will be for sale which will include a Vintage razor, Various blades ,and 1 soap and the Old Proraso this thread is talking about and maybe some other stuff but im not sure.
So I am one of those People that is very happy that Proraso Reformulated all there products.
