What's new

I think I bought a Butterscotch in training.

I bought this at an antique mall and really like it.

I was shopping around for brushes so I could make an attempt to refurbish one myself for my 1st try.

This brush caught my eye and frankly, I am afraid to attempt this myself.
The bottom says Erskine, Imported Badger.

There were some older wooden brushes (Anchorset) that I might take a crack at, but I would prefer to have this one done professionally and re-knotted.

Which of our excellent vendors does this kind of work ?

thanks,

I think you have a rubber top and lucite bottom on that one...not a butterscotch.

However it ought to make for a nice restore. Rudy Vey would be my recommendation if you are not inclined to do it yourself.

That gouge in the white rubber may be a difficult fix....but a bit of polish all around will spruce it up and the battle scars are a mark of a well used brush.

I would have Rudy set a Finest knot in that one.

Not butterscotch but will restore well, if you go about it the right way.

Depending on how handy you are, I would probably restore it yourself. While the raw material is there for a nice brush, there will be a fair amount of work involved getting it pristine. I don't know how much the pro's charge by the hour, but I imagine the end cost would be more than the price of a decent new brush.

Up to you. There are plenty of threads on "how to" here. And if you get stuck at any point, we are always ready to answer questions.

Oh well, live and learn I guess. :blushing::blushing:

Seeing as this is not what I thought it was, I will have a go at it myself.

Thanks for the advice and "lesson-learned" experience.

Is this the same brush as I found ?
It sure looks like it, though the bottom material of mine looks lighter.

And, what is the material the top of the brush is made of ?

Thanks

I think it's a sort of hard (vulcanised?) rubber.

Yep, that looks like the same brush. That's what a bit of sandpaper and polish will do.
