What's new

I sure could us e some advice.

I have something that I'd be interested in selling on Ebay, but I have no idea of how to go about doing it. Its a valuable vintage Fender guitar that will command a hefty price. If someone can advise me of how to go about doing the deal I would be really grateful. I'm not all that computer literate so I could use some detailed advice if a member would be willing to walk me through it. Thanks in advance.

I've bought and sold a little on Ebay, but never spent more money or sold something that I wouldn't be able to lose. I feel like, especially for sellers, Ebay can be a bit of a gamble at times.

Have you approached some of the music stores etc in your area to see if they might be interested? You could simply give them a call, usually no need to go down there unless they are interested.

I would be very careful selling something valuable on Ebay; to keep their operation rolling over, the Ebay management pretty much always sides with the buyer. Someone buys your Fender, says it arrives broken, or never arrives. In the worse case, you are out the guitar and have no cash to show for it.

One thing that Ebay is really good for: establishing rough upper and lower cash values for your guitar. Read EVERY listing of your model, studying the fine points, the condition; look at old sales and check out how the bidding went. This is how I priced Fatboy razors, by the way, when I water one.

Then armed with this knowledge, perhaps try a really first-class music-instrument store in your nearest big city. The more you know, the more comfortable you'll be.

Never, ever Craig's List.

Sorry to be a downer.

You may be better to use a specialist auction house if the Fender is a sought after model, the fees may be higher but you will have the collectors worldwide seeing it as they are always aware of upcoming sales and you have none of the downsides of Ebay selling such as the issues mentioned previously.
I sell a lot on Ebay but usually go to a specialist auction house to sell rare high value items.

You are better off getting someone else to sell it for you, whether that is ebay or whatever. Without a substantial record of sales on ebay people will be hesitant to buy from you and you will not get nearly the top value of the piece. It is not hard to learn how to sell on ebay; all the directions are on the site.

EBay really holds your hand now, and guides you through the selling process. You can always require local pick up if you are nervous about shipping. You can specify USA only bidding, a high reserve bid or buy it
