What's new

I not only survived.

I had a great shave today!! Today my first ever DE razor arrived, an awesome EJ89L. This was also my first ever shave with a DE. I first took a hot shower then face lathered with some Williams Mug soap. Decided after the first pass went surprisingly well to do a three pass shave wtg/xtg/atg. To my surprise all three passes were extremely comfortable. Finished with witch hazel and a cold water splash. I forgot to mention the blades. I used the Derby Extra and have no complaints even though I had to blade buff a couple of spots there was no irritation. I was a little skeptical but the masses on here were right. This is way better than my Fusion!! Thanks B&B for all the helpful info!!

nice job bro'. The Derby's that come with the EJ89L are ok. Wait til you try a sharper blade. I had my 4th shave tonight and switched to the Astra Platinums and the difference was amazing. Keep on shaving brother.

:badger::badger::badger: Congrats BigJim. You have one heck of a good razor. I hope all your shaves are winners. Have you had chance to go over to the Hall of Fame and check in? We are happy you are here. :taz::taz::taz:

Awesome! The Derbys are not bad, just not everyone's cup of tea. Try some Astra SP or Personna Reds next. You'll be amazed how much better they are.

Congrats on a good first DE shave, just don't get complacent on the next one. Concentrate on your technique and they will just get better and better. I'm also impressed you were able to face lather Williams on your first try.

Congratulations! By and large they only get better as your shave adventure progresses. The EJ 89 is an excellent razor. Don't get discouraged if a later shave is not this good; sometimes bad shaves just "happen".

Should I be confused? I thought I didn't much care for DE or Williams and enjoy Fusions.

Most people on this planet "accepted" the either pain, irritation, ingrowns, non BBS shaves, 1 shave per week, simply cause they didn't know about the fact that DE shaving is so good. So they ended up accepting their situation, and when they come across DE shaving they are so happy and enthusiastic, that they start developing Aquisition Disorders and they experience Guilt/Anger whenever they are in a situation that they forgot the razor home, and they are forced to use a disposable/cartridge type of razor.
Williams is not quite an easy soap to lather, and we assume that it wasn't lathered at its maximum potential, which means that there will be a lot of products for you that you will enjoy very very much,
Happy Shaving !

The truth is most people are perfectly happy with carts and canned foam and get acceptable shaves from them. Those that don't get good shaves, think carts are too expensive or experience irritation to the point of researching things a little more, usually come across the DE shaving world, and well..........we know what happens then.

Actually this wasn't my first time to use the Williams. I got the soap prior to getting the EJ and used it a few times with the Fusion. I look forward to trying other soaps and creams, but Williams was readily available and for $1.00 it meets minimum requirements.

Congratulations on the successful launch of your DL.
I joined you yesterday in breaking one in as mine showed up in the mail and went right to my face with great results.

And so the addiction begins.

Nice one Jim - great razor & one of my personal favorite blades too; not many people like them but I've no problem with them (have to say though the Gillette 7o/c yellow has the edge - no pun)
