I have been shaving with williams Shaving soap all my life. but they do not sell it here any more. and I do not care for what they are selling now they got some thing called van der hagen Glycerin shaving soap. here in Alaska you do not have much of a choice in what you buy. but now I have the Internet I can buy online .

thank you for any input you guys can give and please for give my spelling. it is not one of my strong points I have a type of Dyslexia at least that what the school teachers told me. but I think the point of what I am saying still gets across .

Haven't tried the prairie creations soap but the others are great and I think you won't be dissapointed with them.
Oh, and welcome!

Mitchells and Speick are fantastic. Tabac is very strongly scented and always made me cough so I got rid of mine but no one can argue with its performance. Don't know about PC soaps.

there are some great soaps on your list.

at $5.50, the speick stick is really a must try. fantastic stuff.

between MWF and tabac, i'd say the tabac is less temperamental, easier to use right off the bat. MWF has a scent which is soft and mild and guaranteed not to offend. tabac has a strong almost "old spice" scent that leaves many people cold. i happen to like it. both are solid choices.

MWF and SPEICK are great!

Don't know about the PC. Tabac's scent has been a dealbreaker for me, so I haven't used it.

I'd say give the Speick stick a chance before you mill it down into a mug. I enjoy using it as a stick. It takes up less space and it's convenient. You can still use your brush and work up a lather directly on your face.

All those you have listed are top-shelf soaps! Can't go wrong with any of them!

1 Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap
Pros: Contains both tallow and lanolin. Leaves the face nice and soft, Cool ceramic dish!
Cons: Some have trouble lathering it.

Might also consider Kent soap. Same thing but cheaper. Can be had at the Ebay Kent store: http://myworld.ebay.com/gbkent/

2 Tabac Shaving Soap
Pros: One of the best soaps out there IMO. Thick and slick lather. Easy to use.
Cons: The smell is off-putting to some.

3 prairie-creations TALLOW Shaving Soap
Pros: I have a bowl of the Old Spice type which performs similar to Tabac.
Cons: Seems to be some inconsistencies between batches.

4 Speick Shave Stick:
Pros: Another great soap. Again, similar to Tabac. Cheap
Cons: Comes in stick form only.

With all the stuff thats written about MWF and tabac, you have to try them otherwise your always gonna wonder. Also once you figure out how to lather them your gonna love them.

1 Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap
Great soap. Period. Lanolin leaves your skin feeling great afterwards. Some have troubles lathering, but I have never had any issues.

2 Tabac Shaving Soap
This soap really performs well. Most consider it the gold standard in performance. The only drawback for some (including myself) is the scent. It's a little powdery and old school.

3 prairie-creations TALLOW Shaving Soap
Great soap, but the scent is very faint. Priced very well. It also took me months to get my order

4 Speick Shave Stick:
IMHO this is my favorite shaving soap. Slick and smells fantastic. There will never be a time that I dont have this. Speick makes some fantastic aftershaves also. I even have the deodorant stick.

The three I’ve tried Tobac, Speick and MWF/Kent all give great lather and a great shave.

But the soaps you are trying are all quite similar.

If you want to find out which type of soap you prefer, I’d go for a different selection.

MWF or Kent to try a tallow/lanelin soap
Geo F Trumpers / Lime to try a quality vegetable soap
QED (sandalwood) to try a glycerin soap
Cade to try a traditional French soap with shea butter

Once you know which one you prefer, you can narrow the field down quite a bit. Just a suggestion.

You can spend twenty years testing soaps if you want. There are that many.

1. MWF - best soap on your list
2. Tabac - performs well but may leave your face feeling dry
3. PC - I have used the OS scented soap. good, slick lather, very moisturizing.
4. Speick - Haven't tried it

VDH soap isn't a bad soap for the money. Give it a try.

MWF - Easy to lather. Good tallowy lather. Lanolin is supposedly good for your skin. Scent is faint and not objectionable.

Tabac - Easiest soap I've ever used to lather. Consistent, creamy lather. I dislike the smell.

Haven't used the other two.

 I just put in a order at a site called bullgooseshaving. I cant wait till it comes .

hey guys thanks for your in put and advice.:thumbup1:

1 Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap....on my list to order.

2 Tabac Shaving Soap...lathers great....the smell is something else though...mix of cheap perfumes and old whorehouse.

3 Prairie-Creations....I find my tubs to be unlatherable. I now think of them as my Airy Houdine soaps. Thin vaporous lather just dissappears.

4 Speick Shave Stick....a superb choice. Excellent lather, good scent, sticks go a long way.

Having looked at Phil's site in the past, I would guess this gent selected the 3 classics... Tabac, MWF, & Speick. It will make for an interesting comparison and I look forward to his reviews from Alaska. ( Speaking of Alaska.... He must be fairly remote. I can't imagine a corner drug store or pharmacy that wouldn't carry Williams Mug Soap. Not that Moriarty will desire it after any of the 3 Im thinking he selected from BullGoose. I have used all 3 at one time or another and any of them could be a great soap to be a daily driver so to speak.

As for the Prarie Creations product, I never have tried it but it does have it's loyal following. From a distance, as a homemade artisan product it reminds me of the American side dish classic, the Green Bean Casserole. Some love it, some despise it, and no two recipes of it are ever really alike and it is consumed in both trailer parks and McMansions alike.
