I need something more aggressive!!??

Hi,

I've now been DE shaving for about 4months. While it's amazing in terms of lack of irritation I still can't shave my neck very well at all. In fact the last few weeks Ive been using a gillete sensor disposible and it does a better job at getting a close shave over my neck than my HD with feathers!!

I have on order a Merkur Slant Gold hoping that can help, but I'm now looking into open comb razors; in particular the 11c, 12c or 25c.

From what Ive read they are extremely aggressive while allowing for no irritation. My main problem is those hairs that lie really flat against your skin on the neck particularily around the adams apple. I think thats why a cartridge razor can get them cause of how hard you can push down to literally dig them out.

I want to give Open Comb razors a go because of the fact that they leave more shaving cream on your skin and I'm hoping that'll help with redness and irritation. But can anyone else offer any advice with razor choice with regards to the 3 mentioned?

Thanks.

I used a Gillett NEW this morning for the first time. It shaved my neck much better than my Parker 22R (RIP) or my Merkur 12c, or even my new (to me) SuperSpeed.

A slant or open comb could change something. You could always try a superadjustable if you want to get the aggressivity question out of the equation.

I personnaly prefer a Gillette NEW, you could always find a cheap one to try it and re-sell it if you don't like it. At least, you won't pay a high price for it.

I have a Merkur 15c (open comb classic) and closed-comb 1904 (similar head to the HD). I find the open comb a bit less aggressive than the closed-comb Merkur. I also find I can get it to glide a bit more smoothly on my skin.

Thanks for the reply. :)

From what I've read about the 15C, it seems to be quite a mild razor. So I guess I'm more interested in the ones that are claimed to be more aggressive such as the 11c etc.

You might want to try a red tip Super Speed. They are a little too aggressive for me, but may work for you. Also an adjustable may be a better choice, that way you could dial back for under the nose and chin.

Wait till you can try the Slant you ordered. Give that one a shot before you start trying others. (you will try others of course - we all do, but give the Slant a few shaves before moving on...)

For me the Slant even with some of the more conservative blades was too agressive on the neck which is why I am looking to offload it for a BP.

+1. I also agree with the NEW razors as a good choice. My wiskers can't hide from the vintage open combs!

I use a slant as a go to razor and I find it to be a very smooth razor unlike the tall yarns built around its so called ferocity..

The open comb, let me say, I own a Goodfella and its a gentle shaver - perhaps as much as my flaretip SS !!!

If you're looking for more agressive, why not use the same razor and just hold the handle closer to your neck? That'll open things up for you. :w00t:

Merkur open combs all have the same head. I found the 11c to be less aggressive than the 34c.
