What's new

I need a soap that smells like C&S #88

Not just a rose scent, but an earthy, woody, teaky, sandalwoody, vetivery, mossy rose...although predominantly rosy. C&S #88 is hard to describe if you haven't actually smelled it, but those who HAVE, have you found a scent similar in a soap (besides the insanely overpriced C&S #88 shave soap..I AM aware there is such a beast...)? I'm thinking if there IS one out there, it would be either of the Two Sues (Mama Bear or Saint Charles Shave) that could pull it off...which brings me to my next question...would either of them be willing to "customize" a soap and attempt to formulate it? I just can't get enough of that stuff...sheesh..roses......who knew?

If I could find a soap that was reasonable cost and smelled JUST like the cologne, it might become the only soap I ever use. It could perform like Williams for all I care:lol:

Sometimes you just have to pay for what you need...er... I mean want:rolleyes:

I haven't yet tried the C&S 88 SS, but it is on my short list....

I had a puck of the #88 shave soap & sold it. It just didn't work for me. I found its lather to be kind of "dry," as was my skin after using it. Other guys have used it w/great results.

Smells insanely good, tho.

Why not buy unscented melt and pour soap, and then, when it is cooling but still liquid, introduce the EDC into the soap with a gentle stirring motion? Might work.

I know there's a place on line that sells melt-and-pour shave soap for 3 dollars a POUND, so you could experiment some without breaking the bank.

If you figure out how to do it, you could come back on here and teach the rest of us. You'd be a hero!

You know, I was thinking just that, lol...except I was looking at SCS's unscented bulk cream...and a 200 ml bottle of #88...hmm...that would be some pricey cream though...

Bacon aside....

Does anyone have an opinion on the various Mama Bear Rose scents (in relation to each other)? There's Chypre Rose, Roses, Fleur de Soul (rose and pepper), Rosewood EO, Christmas Rose (rose and pine), Sandalwood Rose...I've read the reviews of the ones...er...reviewed, but I'm curious as to how they compare. Sue, help a brutha out here...

Well, an update...I placed an order with Mama, and she's going to send me a Chypre Rose sample, so I'll start there. She doesn't think it'll be anything like #88, but I love rose, so that's fine. I've never tried any Mama Bear soaps, or other glycerine based ones, so I picked up a few others as well, and am looking forward to some EO goodness.

I ALSO placed an order with Sue @ SCS, and went off the deep end a bit. I ordered Savory Rose soap (two pucks), along with the splash and the milk, and a bunch of other stuff as well. I was less conservative with my SCS order, as I have used some of their soaps and know the quality and performance is exactly what I'm looking for.

BUT - and this is the good part - SCS Sue is willing to take a shot at formulating a C&S #88 inspired soap. I'll be sending her a sample of the cologne to work with, and if she's happy with the results, it may be available to order at some point in the future. I'm willing to take one for the team, and part with my beloved sample for the sake of the possability of an affordable and available alternative to ordering the C&S soap, but don't thank me, thank Sue, lol.

Way to take one for the team! If Sue can get the scent down, count me in for several pucks!

Up to monkey business again, eh?

Savory Rose is good but I bet Sue can come up with something dark and earthy for you.

I told her there would be many takers, so I agree...good luck!

(Sue, I have the sample vial packed and ready to mail off on Monday morning)
