What's new

I love the smell of Clubman-Smells like Victory!

i have really gotten into using Clubman aftershave. Clubman takes me back to Frank's barber shop on Miami Beach in the 60's. After getting my summer crew cut by Nat the barber, I would get a trim with a straight edge razor in some of the tough spots, a head full of butch wax, and then a dab of Clubman on my neck. Every time I use Clubman, it takes me back to those summer hair cuts. Amazing the great memories that a scent can bring back. Clubman is now part of my permanent rotation, and it will stay there.

Sadly, while Clubman does evoke those early haircut memories for me, it evokes a strong negative reaction from the wife.

She likes the Bay Rum, Special Reserve and even the dreaded Lilac Vegetal, but the plain Clubman...

Clubman is awesome stuff. It reminds me of getting a haircut as a kid (unfortunately my current barber doesn't use the as on me though he has it in stock. I love the smell.

Maybe time for a new model?:001_smile. All kidding aside, SWMBO enjoys all my scents thus far, so I am not in your position. If she hated Clubman I would wait until I am alone and then put it on. I have not tried the Lilac Vegetal on her yet, so the jury is out-expect a report soon.

I have no memories of Clubman. My experiences are all new. It's a great scent. SWMBO likes it too. She doesn't like most of my cologne.

What do you mean dreaded? :001_huh:

Clubman is my favorite. I think I have gone through three bottles in two years.

Just got a bottle today, unfortunately my first barber smelled of crew cream so no early memories but it still smells good lets see what swmbo says
Maybe I should get some crew cream though

We have all of these cases of SWMBO hating Clubman. Perhaps there is a conspiracy afoot? I am lucky I guess, as last night SWMBO smelled my neck about 3 hours after my shave and said she loved the smell and asked me if I had bought more in the states. I am happy as Clubman would have stayed in the rotation regardless-I have to draw the line somewhere!

I just used the Bay Rum for the first time this morning, and as my wife was giving me a good morning hug, she caught the side of my face and exclaimed, "Wow, that's nice."

So, +1 for the Bay Rum....

Slasphed on some Clubman before I went out today, love the old timey barbershop scent!:thumbup1:

Well someone has to spoil the party......

It's smells like an 83 year old man who is going off to play shuffleboard at the old folks home. No thanks. Clubman Bay Rum is just as bad.

Several of you have very smart wives. :thumbup1:

But..... I do understand your thoughts. I tried Creed Green Irish Tweed for the first time. I was immediately taken back to 1987 and the movie Wall Street. Wow!!! I don't believe I ever smelled it before, but I fell like I smelled it everyday during the 80's.

Dude! That's amazing! I am 83! :thumbup1:

Clubman takes me back to my childhood barber shop in the 1980s. I went to the same Barber that cut my father's hair when he was a child. This Barber was a WW2 vet who fought in the battle of the bulge. He did the whole straight razor neck shave bit... including lather from a machine. I always get flashbacks of smoke from men smoking pipes and drinking coca colas from glass bottles. I am glad I am just barely old enough to have experienced that. Clubman is my regular day to day aftershave and I think a big reason I wear it is it brings me back to those days... I guess it is my way of rebelling against the metrosexual thing that goes on today.
