What's new

I just ripped myself off!

I have a question for those of you who have bought and used these blades. Are they the same blades as shown in the Amazon photo? I ask because the American Line blades pictured are uncoated carbon steel blades from Mexico, currently selling for $6.97/100 at Home Depot. I'm not saying they are bad blades, but they are not the PTFE coated stainless blades Ted Pella sells. I'm just wondering.

If you've received PTFE coated SS blades in that packaging, I apologize in advance.

These are the same as the Ted Pellas and meant for shaving
I understand that the uncoated carbon steel American Line blades are better used as scrapers. So, you're saying that the blades marked Gem and Stainless on the spline, like Ted Pella sells, are also sold in the same American Line packaging as the carbon steel scraper blades? I just returned from Home Depot, and the blades they sell are these:

The packaging looks identical to the Photo on Amazon. However, they are neither stainless nor coated. See why I'm confused?

The American Line and Ted Peller Gems are identical blades only re-packaged. What sellers of the American Line do is if you don't buy the full 100 blade box is split them up and sell them loose. I just received 25 of these blades from an online tool co and it came in a sealed plastic bag. Each blade is individually wrapped. The more you buy obviously the cheaper they are. So 25 blades was the most expensive and 100 the cheapest aside from the Ted Pellers which are only sold in a 200 box count.

I just got 100 of these from Amazon. Visually they are indistinguishable from the Ted Pella blades. I have used both and their performance is identical.

When I was younger and just returning to a blade razor, I used some of the Home Depot blades I had bought for handyman purposes. That just about convinced me I wanted to drop the SE concept for the rest of my life. Thankfully, I ordered some from Pella. A world of difference. Mine are marked Gem and are 'hopefully', stainless with a Teflon coating. Sharper and last longer.

You can also buy Stanley carpet cutting blades and use them in a Durham with the same results. If you are someone who routinely shaves with a hunting knife, they may seem smooth, but one tried was enough for me.
