What's new

I just ordered some samples from Lucky Scents.

I ordered samples of ;

Knize Ten
Mazzolari Lui
Domenico Caraceni
Le Labo Oud 27
Le Labo Patchouli 24

Now the waiting begins. Or maybe I should say the waiting continues :blushing:

I got samples of these as well and have since ordered bottles of Knize and DC. Still haven't got around to using Le Labo 24, but will over the holidays.

Shawn, you've killed it, all those frags are some of the best of the best IMHO.

I can't wait to get your impressions. should we check back in this thread?

I'll post impressions in this thread. I have wanted to do a small sample pack for a while now and I finally had time to research some fragrances.

The reviews of Mazzolari Lui and Domenico Caraceni almost made me order a bottle each, untested! Discretion got the better of me and I ordered a sample.

Two very different scents - one super elegant and one super coarse. Be interesting to see what you decide.

Would like to share a great experience I just had with Luckyscent.

I ordered a bottle last week of Domenico Caraceni and it was sitting on my shelf when I went to use it today. I noticed it was stuck to my shelf and approximately 20% was missing as the bottle was leaking from somewhere.

They are sending me out a replacement and a shipping label to send the defective bottle back. Great customer service all around.

Only downside is that I wanted to take this with me on xmas vacation, but oh well - glad to be getting it replaced.

I'm pretty excited to try both of these scents.

After I read The Knizes description of Mazzolari Lui I knew I had it.

From The Knize
Dark, dangerous. Jungle-like but at the same time old school mafioso. One of those scents that should really be a called a stench, but grows and grows on one. One some level, why would anyone want to smell like this. But something deep in the brain stem, something primal draws me to it against and again. A patchouli like I had never smelled. Nothing about it reminds me of freak days in the late 60s early 70s. Like a said, a darkness, perhaps a furtiveness, even those it announces it self quite loudly. But patchouli and I have little idea what else. Also a scent that evolves, but seems to double back on itself. First one set of notes dominates, then another, then others almost in rotation. A powerhouse of a scent, but not in the sense of 80s power scents. This one has nuances that I have only begun to plumb. A bold tour de force in scent making. This scent exemplifies why I seem to be so addicted to scents.

I'm a rose, tobacco and incense fan so Domenico Caraceni was another must try scent.

First up, Mazzolari Lui.

I might have applied more then necessary, I wasn't sure how much the stick applicator applies so I dunked it in the vial several times.

I'll throw out the standard disclaimer, I'm not that great at describing scents but I'll try my best.

Wow.

It's like a sledgehammer. Definitely not a subtle scent.

It starts with a blast of patchouli and I can barely detect a little cedar and something else, almost but not quite citrus. Then it starts to dry down and all I can tell is that its more patchouli, but it seems to not project quite as much.

If Tarzan wore cologne he would wear this. Not the campy Disney Tarzan either.

I love it.

I could still smell the Mazzolari Lui after sleeping all night. It has some pretty good staying power.

I wore Domenico Caraceni today. I'm not sure about this one, I'll have to wear it a couple more times before I make my final judgment. My wife didn't really care for it at all. She said it smelled like cloves, vanilla and something really sweet.

Well, your opinion counts the most (or hers). I don't get any of those notes out of it personally. Not sure what she smells in that the evoke that reaction.

For what it's worth, here's the notes profile of DC 1913:

Top notes are neroli and styrax; middle notes are geranium and rose; base notes are tobacco, incense and cypress.

Shawn, what did your better half say about Lui?

I applied it to my arm and to my face. She really liked the scent on my face but she didn't care for the scent on my arm at all. As far as I'm concerned that means she really likes it!

Thanks for posting the notes Stylin. I looked on Basenotes but couldn't find a listing for DC.

I think she is probably smelling the styrax. I wasn't sure what it smells like and did a Google search, I'm not sure if the descriptions I found are accurate or not but it would explain the vanilla and sweetness.

I'm wearing Knize Ten today.

I'm enjoying the leather and amber.

Every once in a while it reminds of petroleum jelly.

It will be interesting to get the wife's take on this scent.

It was a grower for me. Was unsure at first, then ended up really liking it and just placed an order for a full bottle of the Golden Edition (more leather, less powder). Wife still hates it

At the end of the day I am really liking it and as an added bonus the wife said "it smells really good." The chemical smell faded and I'm left with a really nice amber/musk/leather with a little bit of powder.
