What's new

I just converted another to the world of safety razors

I work with this young fellow who I believe is about 18. He has overheard me talking with another coworker about how much we enjoy wet shaving with our safety razors. So, he asked me to help him start up his own shaving set. He said he is tired of paying so much money for replacement cartridges. Naturally, I was excited to help him into this fun world. I am setting him up with a Gillette flare tip that I recently cleaned up. I have some extra Wilkinson and Derby blades that I was going to give him, too. I also suggested he pick up VDH set to get most of the other supplies. I figured this would be an inexpensive way in which he can decide if DEs are for him. I really hope he likes it. I wish someone would have told me about all this stuff when I was that young!

Awesome! Your a good coworker, I too was brought to the wonderful world of wet shaving from a coworker. I haven't looked back!

I'm 18 and luckily discovered this lifestyle recently!! He should love it. I've noticed it makes me feel like a much better man. Manlyness and all that jazz. Anyways congrats!

I also converted a coworker about two years ago. Miraculously he has avoided all AD's. He has been happy with just his Merkur 37c slant and Feather blades for the entire past two years!

I also converted an young friend of mine who was a member of the VW club I used to be active with. With him it was kind of weird, like a father son experience. He just wasn't getting it on his own, so I went over his house and we hung out in the bathroom and shaved together, with me showing him the right way to build lather and how to properly use his razor.

It was funny, he and I have restored two cars together, hung out for years, crashed out in the same room, etc.. But shaving with another man was a little awkwardly "intimate"

But he's been officially converted as well.

OP, good job on the conversion! Keep spreading the gospel, and buy yourself something nice!

:lol: I can totally see how that would be awkward!

I have converted 3 co-workers so far, two of them really loved it from the first shave, the other used canned gel for his first 2 shaves and didn't seem to like it. I ended up going to Walmart and buying him the VDH boar brush/soap/mug set.

Oh man, that was just a funny line to read. You sir are dedicated to the cause!

To the OP, great work converting one more! I have had surprisingly good luck converting my coworkers as well. Guess the price of those cartridges really works in our favor there, I know for a fact it used to make me angry every time I had to buy more. Some of my younger co-workers were interested surprisingly based mostly on the idea of contributing less plastic landfill waste.

To Bill, glad you got a new shaver straightened out with the skills, awkward though it may have been! I have never thought about it, but wow yeah, someone being in the room while I was shaving would feel strange.

I just did the same for a fellow at my church, gave him a slim adjustable I picked up from the B/S/T forum, He tried it out for the first time yesterday and I noticed a nasty little nick on his lip. Seems he forgot to close it down when he got to his upper lip and tried to hack it off set at 9... I told him to get some good pointers here on B&B so maybe we'll see him on some time. I think the best way to get some one sold on DE is to just get them something easy and inexpensive to start them off right.

It's funny but a lot of guys are receptive to it. One of the postal workers who always sees me open my packages (I can't wait!) has always been intrigued by my gear. He also has a lot of razor burn on his neck (since he's on a budget he uses Fusion carts for about a month each). He thought that wet shaving is expensive.........I said it could be, but with a basic kit and some practice, you can have some amazing shaves.
Case in point, I'm going to drop off a newbie kit which includes:
-Chinese 3 piece Gillette Tech clone (the ebay ones)
-1 pack of Derby's and 1 pack of Israeli Personna's
-Bestshave Turkish brush
-CO Bigelow/Proraso cream
Last but not least, a link to our wonderful site and Mantic59 tutorials
We'll see how it turns out.

I "contaminated" our CEO with the idea. As a vegan, he was a bit reserved about the brushes at first, but then I told him about new STF-ones. After that, it was a breeze. He loves everything German, so we decided to get some stuff to sell in our shop. He'll be grabbing one set for himself - the ecology point itself is enough to make him study the technique thoroughly.

You're very lucky, you know when I try to convert people they just keep staring at me. And when I'm done with my story they just say, no I like the way I shave. I mean okay thats fine, its their money not mine.

I have a good friend of me, he uses Fusion. His face is full of nicks and ingrown hairs. He asked me once why I don't have nicks, I told him well, do you use aftershave? He said no. I said why? He said because it stings. I mean take it like a man, what has happened to the youngsters (I'm 23 years old)? I just got my Clubman Pinaud Bay Rum and I LOVE the sting.

I always knew about the DE razors, but I always thought that they're so bad compared to the Fusion (what a ******* I was). My old man shaved with a DE, I still remember when I was 16 on high school a science teacher told me about a DE system and how superior it was. My mother told me that her father used to shave with a DE too and its perfect. After I got tired of those high price tags on carts I decided to get a Merkur 34C HD, and man... I wish I was converted since the first day I have started shaving!

I still will try to convert people to DE shaving!
