What's new

I had to share this for the scales (not a razor)

So me being the inquisitive one (still straight shaving and such) Bear has turned me onto knifemaking and I've been reading all about it. As such, I have been searching around for ideas on possibly making a knife in the future. Thanks for another money-draining addiction bear!

Anywho, I thought it would be a disservice not to share this knife. Not only because it was made and ground beautifully, but those scales! Holy cow! There's one for all of your "to do" lists. I know it's on mine now.

Yup, he used a blue resin to give it a fish scale look, very very cool. Never seen such a thing.

Scaly scales!

Awesome!

I tried a different approach using python skin:

Wow! Those are awesome! That would scare the heck out of my girlfriend.

How did you seal them, anything different than normal?

Will this be a launch to the next BB competition? Who can make the fanciest scales??

Gentleman, please continue.....:001_rolle

Oh boy... I haven't even started trying to straighten scales on my newest acquire (thanks for the SRAD! - it's ok I've only bought the cheapest ones!) . I could go for that sometime in the future though!

Too bad they are only 5 inches... Too short for a razor.

You can make scales with 5" material by cutting them out diagonally, they are still very short. The pivot pin is right at the end of the scales and not room for a large wedge.
It is doable though.

(Edit- had an example up but realized it was 6" material I was working with. Traced out on paper it still works though.)

Could that stuff be homemade? I mean a pine cone sawed in half, some resin mixed with color, would one need a vacuum pump? Probably not as easy as it seems but it would be nice to have some pine cone razor scales.
