Hello trusted friends of Badger & Blade,

I’ve never been banned from a group before. But today I got banned from a Reddit group and the mods have it set up to where I can’t even send them messages to appeal.

I believe I was wrongfully banned due to AI bots checking for certain keywords and phrases. I know for a fact that I did not violate the rules. I mean there wasn’t even a warning.

So anyway, I’m looking for advice on how to proceed with this. I guess it’s more principle than anything because it’s one of my lower priority groups. I’m just bothered by it and hope it doesn’t give me some kind of a hidden score that they can use to kick me out of other groups that I enjoy much more.

Thanks

Sometimes it is better to knock the dust of a place off your sandals as you depart it, so that no part of that place comes with you.

I suspect that in many places, AI is used to detect words most likely to used to express certain opinions. And it is the opinions that are being suppressed, rather than the words.

This has led to the intolerable condition of having to deliberately misspell, spell phonetically, add dashes, or write in euphemisms just to express an adult idea. YouTube is particularly egregious.

Same way with X unfortunately.

Don't even try my friend. Moderators are just Egotistical power tripping unrealistic mobsters who don't care about the common man. No one EVER comes back from a ban when forum/group Moderators run the show.
Cretins I tell ya!

But in seriousness - Do you want inclusion in a group that would view you as excludable?
The AI trigger on certain words with no recourse to the victim is awful, but it ought to be a warning for people to steer clear.
I'd bet good money that's management policy there, not any individual team member.

That is the thing with Reddit mods. They can do what they want. If they looked at you posting history on another sub, say politics, trucks, guns, and they don't like those type of people, they can ban you. For no reason.

I'm own the subreddit for my small city. I banned a left-wing moderator that mods 4 different state subreddits and bans anyone he disagrees with. He was pissed when I showed him the door without warning, in fact, he didn't even post in the sub for months.

They can make you can go away if they don't like you.

try not to sweat it. People often refer to podcasts and forums and such as "communities" or "movements". Especially when trying for donos or superchat funds. They are something, but these things are not human communities or movements. You could never call upon these "communities to help you move; like you might with a group of old friends. Within my lifetime, I remember groups of guys playing poker together every Wed nights. Or playing softball saturday mornings. Society has become far too atomized. and as interesting or useful as it may seem- the internet is not a community. as documented in books like

Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community

by Robert D. Putnam (

Its best to keep these things in perspective.

It’s not that I want to be part of a “group” that wants to exclude me, it’s just a gatekeeper trying to exercise authority.

I’ve read complaints from people who have been banned from B&B. It happens. I’m not saying it is good bad or otherwise, just that it isn’t just Reddit. I happen to like Reddit for some technical forums, such as Cisco router and switch conversations. However, every forum has their unique rules and biases (I will say that B&B has the most courteous folks I have ever encountered online). Sometimes it is easy to inadvertently step over the line. Fortunately for me, B&B is pretty forgiving.

Forgiving?

This is interesting but, I’m so glad that I grew up in the 70’s and my life doesn’t revolve around an online presence.
Sounds like I’m older than you so I get the reference. My life revolves around many things that I enjoy, including grandchildren.

My online activities simply fill in some of the gaps between those things and I prefer it to TV. So insinuating that my life revolves around the very thing that you are doing by reading and posting here is rather disingenuous.
