What's new

I found this pen.

Pen: some kinda bird.
Nib: fine to medium. runs outta ink real quick.
Ink: Diamine Red Dragon, not the same as I have all over my hands...

I've never used a quill pen before. I do see enough goose feathers lying around a local park that I have considered giving it a try. Here's an article on how to go about this:.http://www.regia.org/quills.htm. .It's in 3 parts, the 3rd part being about how to make inks. How did you proceed? Surely you didn't just pick it up off the ground and dip it in the inkwell.

When I first read your post..."Pen: some kinda bird" I thought, Oh man he found a Pelikan in the wild!, sadly, no.

I picked it up, cut the nib with my Spyderco, dipped in a sample, and here I am. Nothing to it. Honest

Follow up, I saw a road kill wild turkey today, and I almost pulled over to see if there were any salvager feathers.
Traffic was too much.
See what y'all have done to me....

I think you may be suffering from what is known as

WFAD - Wild Feather Acquisition Disorder.

Unfortunately, I think the only cure is some form of Avian Flu.

it's really weird, but I have my Super Black Eagle, next to the work bench, just in case.

Interesting, there is a Bald Eagle that lives in the swamps near my house. But I think requisitioning one of his feathers is a federal offense.
Yep. Unless you're a certified member of a Native American tribe, mere possession of an eagle feather is subject to a fine up to $25,000. Stick with geese or turkeys!

Which is ridiculous. I'm sure if I was able to find his nest (not that I would. Those swamps can be scary.), I could find a half dozen feathers without ever touching him, or endangering him in any way. The species is not even endangered or threatened any more. http://www.lsuagcenter.com/en/commu...d+Eagles+Make+Comeback+in+South+Louisiana.htm

I have some peacock tail feathers that might work well. I've been thinking of trying this for a while, actually.

This may not be my last post on the subject...
