What's new

I feel I need backbone in my scuttle brush (Kent Blk8 lacks it) -Am I crazy ?

I just got a new scuttle and have been using my Kent blk8 a lot, but I somehow feel it lacks backbone, when I try to stir up the lather in the scuttle....:blink:Am I crazy ?

I feel like the Kent BLK8 is getting more and more floppy, the more I use it......

It sucks up all the product and I'm generous with that - often use 6-4 almond size but the Kent just eats it for dinner. I often have to stir and mx my lather for 5-7 minutes, adding drops of water carefully....but the blk8 eats it.....

I actually feel like I do with true face lather brushes, I need my scuttle brush to have some backbone, when I mix my lather in my scuttle, am I crazy ?

The Kent Blk8 is too soft and too floppy IMHO

It's not getting more floppy, you're just coming to the same preferences a lot of us have. More backbone is better. :thumbup1: Are you a facelatherer yet?

I'm both

I like facelathering, when I have longer stubbles (2-4 days growth) and scuttle lathering, when my stubbles are 1-2 days.
I can - depending on the cream I use and if I accidentally use too much of the good stuff, get a mild reaction from facelathering, when my beard stuubles are only 1-2 days old, so I decided to do both - Scuttle for shorter beard shaves, face lathering for when I have several days of growth - and so far it works fine for me that way.

Got to admit that I do slightly prefer to face lather - I like the extra massage I get on my face, and I often end mixing a more creamy youghurt like lather, compared to when I bowl/scuttle lather.
I also have EXTREMELY hard water, and bowl lathering takes quite a bit longer because of this - I often have to stir and mix like crazy for 4-5 minutes before I build a recpectable amount of lather in the scuttle.
Not so with face lathering - only 2-3 minutes and I have this fine thicker & more dense creamy lather.

But as mentioned - I can get a reaction from face lathering on shorter stubbles - but I may have found a way round that by using Proraso Pre shave cream (either the green or the white stuff in the little jar) - so I might just end up face lathering 4/5 times, when I shave. I do like to scuttle lather too, so will not completely drop that ritual though
