I don't understand it: my best shaves

My best shaves seem to come after not shaving the previous day or two. lf I have shaved the previous day, it is harder to get a BBS smooth shave without really irritating my skin. I don't get it.

Quite normal for those of us with sensitive skin. A BBS shave often irritates sensitive skin; extra time off to let the skin heal/recover does wonders for shave quality IMO.

Of course, YMMV.

Same here I can only really shave every other day with out getting irritation. I envy those that can shave everyday.

Would you recommend a slant to those with sensitive skin?

I have sensitive skin so here is what so that I can shave everyday: use two different razors. On the first day, I use my slant and go for BBS. The second day, I use a Red-Tip superspeed and only do two passes (WTG and XTG). The second shave is usually only a SAS but it is irritation free and allows me to use the slant and get a BBS the next day. As always, YMMV.

Actually, your experience is quite normal. Stubble is harder, denser and closer to the skin than two days growth.

Many experienced wetshavers will relate to your woes...its one of the norms of wetshaving.

Proper prep (Kyle's prep is best...but not necessary) is the only effective way to combat stubble.

Most shavers dont "need" a second razor, slant or whatever for an effective daily shave...as time goes on you'll figure out how to use the same razor/blade combo day in/out with success.

Best of luck!

I use a Slant and to be honest, I find it no more irritating on my sensitive skin than any other DE razor I've tried. Would I recommend one? I recommend that everyone try it, but make sure you go light on the pressure and make sure you use a blade that's kind to your face. A Slant "maximizes" a blade.

I am a everyday shaver since I switched to the light side, but every now and then I take a day off (usually Sunday), and notice the same thing. Keep in mind that the stubble is longer and the skin has a chance to rest. I truly believe that most people believe, or duped into believing they have sensitive skin. I am not saying that there are real cases of sensitive skin but a great majority of us thought we had sensitive and found that the products we were using were simply junk. I was in that camp when using canned goo and a dreaded Mach 3 and only could shave every other day.

Most important thing is prep prep prep. Also and this is key: you must let the razor and the blade do the work. And if you use pressure, well you know what happens. This is the only way to get irritation free shaves. You don't necessarily need a slant, unless you really want an aggressive shave, which I think may exacerbate the problem. Stick to a razor/blade combination that is comfortable first, master it and perhaps you soon find that maybe you are not that quite sensitive.

When taking a shaving day off the shave is not just closer and more comfortable; I often need one pass less for the same result.

My guess is that the first pass is much more effective because the blade can grab more, or maybe just because that first pass is a little slower.

When I can get away with it, I will only shave every couple of days. This is because, like many have stated in this thread, I get a better shave that way.

For me it depends on the time of year and the soap. In the summer I can shave everyday w/ Speick or Tabac. Over the winter I'm noticing I need to scale it back to every two days for it to be comfortable all the time.

I shave now primarily after two days of rest to ensure that I have stubble to cut. My shadow doesn't show up until about 36 hours after my shave since my hair grows very slow on my face. I tried shaving everyday and its just not for me, I look like I got into a fight with popcorn.

I shave everyday. Have to! I don't feel right if I don't. But what I've begun to do lately is every other day I'll do only a two-passer - WTG & XTG x 2 - and leaving the ATG passes for the other days.

I noticed this yesterday. I have been sick in bed with the flu and haven't wanted to shave. went about 2 days and had a good amount of stubble.

After two passes my neck was pretty much done and I had zero irritation. I always have a little there. I have to say I was quite impressed with myself.

Right now as I type this my neck is still pretty much BBS.

God bless Arko Shave Stick and Israeli Personnas :D

I think Arko is going to be my go to. Tallow, cheap, effective.

I just ordered a case off Amazon, cant wait until I get it. My current stick is almost dust.
