What's new

I don’t find the Gillette Tech mild at all!

I only own a Super Blue. It's generally considered to share 70's geometry.
I may be using it wrong way, but it's milder than Merkur 46 in terms of stubble removal, but feels harsher than R41 clone on my skin. I've had even worse experience with Rapira, but I wouldn't refer to a razor that warps blade edges.
Should I keep trying, or is Tech just not for anybody?

The Chinese Gillette Super Blue, is my absolute favorite DE Razor. I have owned, used and gotten rid of many types of razors over the last decade.

Vintage and modern DE’s, SE’s, Injector’s, Straights and Shavette’s. Over the years, I have honed my skill and techniques with all and have kept one or two of each favorite type and style.

But when it comes to just DE? That cheap Super Blue that only cost me $4 is my absolute favorite DE. Do not give up on it, if your face hasn’t spent enough time under it, in order to learn and unlock its wonderful and marvelous virtues as a great DE razor.

Don’t underestimate the value of an extremely light, extremely thin and agile razor head and plate, along with its light, plastic handle that has the perfect length, non slippery; and is easily gripped and held even when wet and can be moved in an absolute artistic and even surgical way, about the face & neck while shaving.

It is not the razor, a beginner with minimal knowledge of their face should use. They will either think it’s way too mild, why? Because they do not know their face well enough to know how to use pressure.

Or, they will think it’s way too aggressive, why? Because they do not know their face well enough to know how to use the appropriate right amount of pressure and where.

It is the razor of the consummate professional in shaving their own face. I can peel an apple with my Super Blue and a good DE blade, so don’t let anyone tell you it’s too mild.

If you are one who has been brainwashed into thinking pressure is your enemy and not your friend? Then the Super Blue is not for you. But if you will take the time and patience to learn the skill and master the art of using pressure?

In turn you will master the Super Blue, which will make every other DE from old vintage brass DE’s to the heavy and clumsy stainless steel modern DE’s… Obsolete.

Another new Chinese Gillette Blue fan- which sent me looking for this thread to see if others had the same experience.
At the current sale price of $2.88 each I threw 3 in an Ali Express order for stocking suffers, PIFs to the uninitiated to DE shaving and hopes of finding a cheap “Good enough” travel razor. What I did not expect was a safe, clean, effortless DFS+/BBS shave. I did NOT expect this razor to leave me shocked as to just how smooth, comfortable and easy to use it is. I could buff all day (if needed), and the super light weight and thin cap makes it superbly maneuverable.
The cheap, hollow plastic handle works well and has great grip. I prefer longer handles, and this is the perfect length without being so long that it gets in the way N/S on the neck.
Almost 3 years into wet shaving I’ve worked my way thru about every form of vintage Gillette, Gamechangers and Lupo to settles on Overlander and Athena as the ones I didn’t think would have equal. Adding it all up, as well as the soaps, brushes, etc as been a substantial investment. I don’t think I’ll ever part with my Overlander or Athena, but if all I had was this Chinese tech, a good soap, a cheap synthetic brush and some Nacets I would not be lacking anything.
In short, if I had started here I would not have had the enjoyable history lesson of working thru the vintage offerings, but I would have saved a lot of money, lol. I also have a LNIB 1950’s tech I used only two days prior, and I would reach for this little $2.88 razor every time, as well as choosing it over the other 15-20 vintage Gillettes I own. it’s that good, for me, anyway. YMMV. Gillette still makes a great razor at working man prices- they just don't sell it in the US. No profit in it at those prices.

I never found it very mild either and although I got fine shaves with I didn't find the razor to be anything special. I tried selling it here, but nobody wanted it so I threw it away. I know many love this razor. I liked it initially until the new razor honeymoon period wore off. My take is that its an ok razor in the "medium" aggression category.
