What's new

I did it! Bought my first humidor! Now what?

So I finally picked a humidor, ordered it online, and today it arrived at my apartment! I was very surprised at the quality of it! I bought a no name, 25 cigar spanish cedar humidor and honestly it was a perfect use of my money. It looks great, has a whoosh when it closes, and seems to be plenty big for my cigars.

My only question is, where do I start now? I have about 8 assorted cigars, but what other types of cigars should I start trying?

I vote picking up a XIKAR disk and some solution. It did wonders for my little humi. Congrats on finding the rabbit hole.

Season it first, lots of good info on that, then you will want to keep it about three quarters full, just so that if you do trades, play cigar lotto, or win a contest/PIF you will have some room. I would also see about getting samplers and 5 packs from online sources, then you can have some selection!

Happy Smoking!

another option for humidification is a heartfelt beads. Also if your lazy like me, you can pick up a boveda EZ seasoning packet. Just toss the bad boy in your humidor and let it sit closed for 10 days (it takes a bit longer than other seasoning methods, but its a toss in and forget it convience). But the link that showcattle linked is a great step by step traditional way to season a humidor also.

As far as cigars though, the list is endless. If you give me an idea of what you liked so far I can try and point you in the right direction. Hopefully a couple others can jump in also

Also, good Humidors should have a tight seal and yet I can not stress this enough. Raise the lid about 1½ inches and let it drop (it shouln't slam) and you should be able to hear (and feel) a 'whoosh' sound. That noise is the sound on the air escaping and which then will tell you it's a well-constructed humidor.

If your humidor doesn't have a tight seal, then you might use this method to get 'back on line' and put the "whoosh" in your humidor.
