What's new

I am so upset....

Got up late this morning, enjoyed a nice shave, long breakfast and when I left the house, I saw my car was broken in to and my GPS system was stolen!
What a mess, glass all over the car seats, dash, floor and on the ground. Cops came and where saying this is the most common thing right now, stealing GPS's.
The call to insurance, another hour lost time. Now, I need to get the window repaired and get a new GPS. I guess I am out at least $100 for the deductible for the window and I do not know how much they take off the the cost for the GPS - got it last year in February. Good thing is that they are now all much cheaper - still I am pissed as this changes my plans for a long weekend totally and unforeseen expenses because of a loser breaking in my car.

Sorry to hear about them breaking into your car and stealing your GPS. Hopefully the insurance company will cover everything. Regards, Nick

Happened to me about a year and a half ago. Doesn't it stink!?! I still get pissed when I think about some SOB driving around with MY GPS.

First rule of thumb - leave NOTHING visible in your car. I'm amazed all the time to see people who leave computers, electronics, all sorts of stuff lying around in plain sight.... and I can't count the number of times I've walked by the same car later to see a busted window.

I had my car broken into once because I left the GPS mount in the car (not the GPS itself, just the plastic stand). Another time it was because I had left a bunch of loose change in the cup holder. Nowadays, when I walk away from my car the inside looks like it just came out of the showroom.

Oh, btw, no-one steals a GPS to use, they want to sell it quickly. Try checking your local craigslist to see if it gets listed. I know of one guy who was shopping to replace his GPS and found the one he lost listed on craigslist!

Sorry to hear about that mate. Unfortunately even if they got caught, they would only probaby get a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket.

Sorry to hear about this. Hopefully you can get your car repaired quickly. Its infuriating when things like this happen.

i know that story. Remember, its not their fault they broke into your car. Its societies

Bummer, Man. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully, whoever stole it will get a huge, sharp rock of karma jammed up their can.

At least you can get a replacement fairly cheap. Don't let it ruin your weekend.

I have had this happen to me on 3 separate occasions in the past -- once to steal a radio out of my 320i (before the Benzi boxes -- remember those?), and twice to steal the T-Tops from my 280ZX (I swear to this day that the replacement T-Tops I bought the second time were the ones that were stolen from me the first time).

It is a terrible feeling of violation, and it takes quite a while to pass, but it will pass. Then you'll just be annoyed.

Good luck!

What do you mean, sir? How is it society's fault and not the scumbag who's too lazy to earn anything? I'm not trying to be an ***, I want to know what your opinion is.

That sucks to hear, man. I HATE thieves. I always wondered on GPS thefts, why they couldn't just track them down. It's not like they should have trouble finding them. I'm going to aska Prop. Crimes detective about this.
Ditto about leaving anything visible in the car. I see women leaving purses in the front seat all the time. "Nobody ever stole it before! Why now?" THIS guy never walked by you car before, that's why.

Whenever it is thought of society's fault for a criminals behavior I always think of the song "Only A Lad" by Oingo Boingo.

His parents gave up they couldn't influence his attitude
Nobody could help
The little man had no gratitude

And when he stole the care
Nobody dreamed that he would
Try to take it so far
He didn't mean to hit the poor man
Who had to go and die
It made the judge cry

Only a lad
He really couldn't help it
Only a lad
He didn't want to do it
Only a lad
Hes underprivileged and abused
Perhaps a little bit confused

Its not his fault that he cant believe
Its not his fault that he cant behave
Society made him go astray
Perhaps if were nice he'll go away
Perhaps he'll go away
He'll go away!

The burglars will probably sell it on the black market. That would drive me crazier than the thought he stole it for personal use.

And they will sell it for pennies on the dollar. I know a dude who hired a crackhead to do some construction work. $6-$700 worth of tools came up missing, and were sold by said crack imbiber. For about $50. The guy found who did it, and he made him show him where he sold the stuff. The guy was good about it, and gave him his stuff. I think he has it marked, anyhow. Most aren't that lucky.
