Man. First it was shaving stuff. I got that under control for a bit, then it was off to Fountain Pens. Finally got that under control (that was easy). Now pipes. And I'm totally out of control! This reminds me of the long-time B&B members, I posted it in a newbie's thread a while back.

So, after unpacking boxes from years ago, I found I had about 6-7 pretty nice (not stella) pipes in my possession. I tossed one that was real garbage, but cleaned the others up nicely. Then I started reading about pipe restoration and ended up buying not, one, not two, but THREE from rebornpipes.com He used the old, "These are coming from Canada, you know it makes sense to spread the shipping out over several of them, right?" He was so smooth I thought maybe he was a member of B&B!

Anyway, here is one photo of each one, followed by the link to the restoration project page, which I find fascinating.

As a 2 pack a day LS/MFT smoker, in the 60s and early 70s before giving it up, I couldn't resist a trip down this rabbit hole. Although I bought a $125 Irish pipe, my favorite and most enjoyable pipes were corn cobs with black Cavendish tobacco. I passed on my fancy Irish pipe to a brother-in-law, who smoked a pipe, but after a couple of years quit smoking again.

The Rebornpipes guy has some awfully good-looking pipes on there. . . .

And the stories and before/after photos are "Pipe Porn" for sure. I can't tell you the hours I've wasted ogling their work. So talented. Reasonable prices, for what they are, too, I think. I certainly could not do work like that, but I'm having fun with my two little projects and may get addicted to that, too.

Oh boy. SWMBO stopped being pissed at me over guns, because I more or less quit buying them when I filled my second gun safe. I never spent that much on pens (and lost interest, I write mostly with two Lamy's a fine and a medium, and an old Scheaffer School Pen M), and she really pays no attention to my shaving stuff.

But she's starting to notice the number of pipes and tobacco showing up. I think I'm working myself into the doghouse again.

Maybe I could use an old gun buying tactic. I'd buy a gun, sneak it into the safe (one of them), then wait 6-9 months, then sneak it out to the kitchen and start cleaning it before a range outing. The conversation that ensued was like this.

SWMBO: "DID YOU GET ANOTHER GUN?!"

ME: "No, dear, I've had this one for 'a while', I'm just taking it out shooting today."

It worked more times than you can imagine.

I hope, like guns, all my pipes look the same to her.

The nice thing about ordering from SP is the boxes come from “Laudisi Enterprises” with no hint that it’s tobacco related. I just tell her it’s “reloading stuff” and she quickly loses interest.

Stay calm. Light a pipe and think it through. You will be okay

But which blend? In which pipe? Rubbed out, or folded and stuffed? Panic, John. Panic. Too many choices! Quick, buy something else to make it simpler.

Yup, I agree with this. In case you didn’t know SP has 10% off all tobacco right now and 15% off everything else.

Yes, very reasonable prices. I can't see spending $150 or $200 for a pipe, so $60 is pretty darn good!

Ok, I have a very nice writeup somewhere on here about how corn cob pipes don't count. Yeah, it might not help when briars start (continue?) to show up. But with LOTHs, every little bit helps

There's a tobacconist w/ 2 locations in town. However, their website, while mentioning pipes and pipe tobaccos, seems to be all about cigars. I've written to ask which pipe tobaccos they carry. Probably they won't have SWR or any of the other codgers, but it would be nice to know what they do have.
