What's new

I ain't a skeert to shave with a straight razor PIF.

OK here's a chance to try your hand at straight shaving. This PIF is for someone that really wants to try shaving with a straight that doesn't already have one. It's a Meier Germany blade 5/8" I think. It will come to you shave ready to my standards with a barbers style strop a linen component and and a touch up balsa strop. If at some point your razor is not shaving well I'll re-hone it for you.

There is a considerable learning curve to shaving with a straight. They say 100 shaves before you've got it down. My guess is that's about right. This PIF is not for the DE shaver that just wants a straight in their collection. You really have to want to shave with a straight and give it a reasonable try, like 50 shaves. That's why I'm posting here instead of the general shaving forum. Hopefully you are already cruising this forum out of curiosity. Know that eventually you will cut yourself!

Just post that you're in and tell us something about yourself. PIF closes on my 1000th post. If at any point you find that a straight razor is just not your style you must re PIF the whole setup.

I'll do a random drawing of the entries after my 1000th post.
Open to all. I'll pay postage for Continental US. You pay the difference in shipping if outside US.
Good luck to all.

I would love to be included.

I have been wanting to try straight shaving for a long time.

All my childhood I was fascinated by the razor strop that hung in our bathroom, that had belonged to my grandfather.

Thanks for the opportunity.

I'm not in, but this is a great PIF and a wonderful opportunity for someone wanting to try the straights!

Sometimes a name says it all. :D

I'm in please and thank you. I've been really wanting to try my hand, but my other ADs have kept me from pulling the trigger.

Thanks again for the generous offer.

I'm in if you count someone who has a straight, but it isn't usable yet. I'm getting great advice in a separate post on how to salvage a straight I found in the wild.

Firstly, thank you for the kind offer.

I am new to wet shaving. I just started using a Feather Artist shavette about a month ago. I like it so much that I bought a Schwarzweisskeramik scuttle earlier today and can't wait to get my first straight razor.

I'm in. Always wanted to try a straight, just never had the money to get the razor and gear to go with it. Another section of B&B would grab my attention and I would end up getting something else.

If I win, I will start a journal thread and shave with it at least 100 times. Thanks for the opportunity

I'm in!

Great PIF. Been lurking arround the forum looking looking for a way into the world of straight razor shaving.
In fact I almost bought a straight from the BST last week, but the upcoming christmas shopping got in the way of that.
Ready to dive in (no skeert), all that stand in my way is the lack of hardware :)

I'm in! Always wanted to learn to shave with a straight.
Are you a balloonist? I ask because I live in Albuquerque, home of the largest annual Balloon fiesta!

I am in - have been looking at straights for a while - been using a shavette for a bit and like them - but want to see what a true straight razor is like (not to disparage shavettes - I am getting decent shaves out of them!)

I'm in! I find straight razors to be really beautiful whereas DE's are just more tool-like. I have only been wet shaving a few weeks and own two old Gillette DE's, which I am quite happy with, but I really want a nice straight but have to wait as the funds are just not in the cards this year.

I'm In! This will be a terrific Christmas present to someone for sure. Since taking the jump into traditional wet shaving, I have been wanting to give a straight a try. I remember seeing the strop hanging from my barbers chair when I was a kid and watching him do a shave while I was waiting my turn. It's one of those childhood memories that makes me smile for sure. Thanks for the opportunity!
