Hurricane Earl

I'm in boston and we aren't use to tropical storms. Noreasters are more our thing. Anyone seen this puppy and do i have anything to worry about now that the weather channel is putting us directly in his path?

Depends, but hopefully not.

Remember Gloria, anyone?

Gloria, hell...the eye of Wilma passed right over my house...Wilma was the most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin...in south Florida, it nailed Broward and Miami-Dade counties...120+ mph winds...we were without electrical power for over two weeks...every traffic light in both counties were lying in the streets and for the next six months til they were all repaired you had to stop, when driving, at every intersection as if there was a stop sign there...traffic was unreal...I went out in the eye of it...it was surreal...

Nothing to fear. Boston hasn't been hit full head-on by a strong hurricane or even a healthy tropical storm in decades. This is going to go over as the most overhyped storm of the century.

But if you're scared you can come to my house and hide in the cellar...as long as you bring a case of Sam Adams with you.

I totally agree. I was living in Boynton Beach at the time, and working in Boca Raton. I went 8 days without power, a tree collapsed on the roof of my office, it was borderline anarchy. I too went outside when the eye of the hurricane passed over Boynton Beach. It was very surreal. There was a very strange calm for about 20 minutes and then BAM. the backside of the storm started coming through. very intense.

I've ridden out plenty of hurricanes in New Orleans, the only one I evacuated for was Katrina (directly into its path...). Probably not much to worry about in the Boston area. Looks like it is shaping up to be little worse than a Nor'easter. If you get concerned, fill the gas tank up and get plenty of water. Not much different than what you'd do before the first blizzard of the year.

Yep that G'darn Earl has my wife and I checking TWC all the time we were planning a trip to Frisco, NC so hopefully 12 will be ok soon. Ahhh prime surfing weather :thumbup1:

Born in the Caribbean, grew up in Miami and being living in Beantown for the last 45 years. Saw lots a hurricanes in my youth, but, in Boston by the time they get here they fizzled.
Of course The Blizzard of 1978 was a whole different animal.

Nothing happening on the Eastern Shore. A little bit of rain but hardly any wind. Maybe all will be well up north

They acted like the world was coming to an end, sending FEMA trucks out to the NC Coast, and it wasn't as bad as having a tropical depression to make landfall.
