how to use nancy boy

just got this humungously huge jar of nancy boy shaving cream. (ok, maybe it's not that huge but it's definitely huger than anything else i've had). the instructions say to apply a thin layer and shave away.

question: do i apply a thin layer or do i turn it into a lather...or do i try and see which way works best for me?

ok. and if you go brushless, do i apply a thin layer like it says or do i form it into a lather?

I love Nancy Boy. It might be my favorite cream ever.

I use a brush and it lathers great. I would guess that you would use much less by using a brush. I really don't care for going brushless, so I'm a bit biased.

Enjoy it... you'll be using one of the greats!

NB is my absolute favorite shave cream, and I have never used it brushless. It only takes a very small amount to make the most luxurious, thick lather you have ever experienced. Definitely go with the brush and lather it up. Besides, you will make that jar go alot further that way.

Well said! I might use it tomorrow... with a brush of course. :001_smile

You can use it whatever way you want. It will lather fairly well with a brush - not quite as well as the English creams, due to all the emollients in it, but it functions well as a brush-lathering cream. It can also be used brushless. The makers don't use brushes themselves, and designed the cream to be used for the way they shave. It's just a happy accident that they designed it with ingredients that lather well with a brush.

hehehehe.... I did say that!!!

Well, I almost said that.... I said it could be the greatest ever. It really is hard to pick just one.

HoratioCaine has convinced me to try Castle Forbes Lime.... expect another "could be the greatest" in about a month or two.

The lime is good stuff, but for the record, I personally prefer the lavender. If/when you do get around to trying some, just remember that it has a bit of a learning curve when it comes to lathering, so if you should have trouble with it at first, don't let that be your lasting impression of it.

My Castle Forbes Lavender smells like lime. In any event, it is the only product that I can't get to fully dissolve no matter how much swirling, whipping and stirring I do.

That's why a lot of gents, myself included, treat it like a soft soap and load the brush directly from the tub. I used to try to bowl lather it and had the same problem you do; face lathering by placing an almond size dollop in the brush was no better. The stuff is just too dense to dissolve that way. The soft-soap method works pretty well for me, so long as I'm careful not to allow the water in the brush to flood the cream.

As for why your lavender cream smell like lime, I don't know what to tell you. I have had many tubs of CF lavender, and they have all had a superlative, high-quality lavender scent to my nose; their lime is the limiest of the lime creams I've smelled.

This is my go to cream when I'm not using soap. I don't use a brush for this one, I just smear the nb on my face with my hands and rub it around vigorously. This makes it great for travel. It does take a little more than a rinse to clean the razor post shave, but it is worth it. :thumbup1:

I have tried NB both ways, and when I was struggling with the brush, decided it took too much of the product and a lot more water than others, and too much brushwork to get the lather like I wanted it, so I got rid of it. Then later, had another opportunity to use it and tried it brushless. I agree with Swat, I really prefer the way it works just rubbing it between my hands, and all over my face. It's good SC.
