How to remove tape goo from the spine?

I used to use nail polish remover (non- acetone); it doesn't damage the gold wash but it'll easily ruin plastic scales.

EDIT: speaking of gold wash, great way to protect it against tape is to use nail polish, let it dry then tape the spine.

I usually tame the tape first by laying it on my jeans before taping the spine. Makes it a bit less sticky.

When using electrical tape it sometimes(often) leaves adhesive behind on the razor and if you don't see it you smudge it on to your strop as well.

I don't know if this works, since I only own a Feather SS as far as straights go at this moment (RG on the way) and don't need to hone, but many photographers like to use Gaffer tape, since it doesn't leave any residue and can easily be removed from most walls or other surfaces.

Ronsonol lighter fluid, used it for years in my Zippo, and to remove many a sticky mess, hasn't hurt anything I have used it on, but it will burn your leg if you over fill the Zippo then stck it in your pants pocket.

I'm surprised no one has said the obvious - don't use tape. :D

To remove sticky crap I use either lighter fluid or go-gone, depends on if there's detail work I don't want to damage or not. Something I'm afraid of damaging just lighter fluid. Anything else go-gone.

Cheers,

M.

It even mentions razors on the label...

Oh, we were just waiting for one of you anti-tape partisans to chime in.

I use WD-40.
