how to post a link with a preview?

I knkw to click the two locked chains to post a link like this:

Google

But I've seen ppl post a link, and it posts a little preview photo of what the link is... thats quite nice, how do you do that?

When you upload a pic, you can select to show the full image or a preview before you make the post.
Go to the small image at the bottom before clicking "Post Reply" and click on "Insert", then you can select "Thumbnail" or "Full Image".

and as far as I can tell, a) previews aren'tworking at the moment, and b) they are auto-generated by the site (probably retrieved from search engine data)
