How to make a super travel sized shave stick

Hello Gents,
I recently purchased some shave soaps from Madame Scodioli on Etsy the day I got back from a fishing trip. As I was putting away my dopp kit I thought about the shave cream I brought (small sized proraso/C.O. Bigelo). I enjoy the cream but chose it mainly on it's size. This got me to thinking about the soaps. If I had a smaller soaps I would have brought them.

So after a little tinkering and an hour of procrastination (writing my dissertation) I produced these super travel sized shave sticks. Below are the directions in case you too should be doing something else.

Cut a small sliver of your favorite soap (gylcerine based). Melt it down in a small double boiler. I used a shot glass in a saucepan. Make a small funnel out of aluminum foil. Pour the melted soap into a clean and empty lip balm tube. place in a freezer for a few minutes to set.

I then continued the procrastination making the label. It took longer to make the labels.

I don't know how many shaves one stick will produce yet. I'll let you know.

I would buy these as samples if any soap maker would make them. What do you think?

Pretty cool, but a little on the small side for my tastes. You can get a empty shave stick container and use your same process to get something a bit larger... those would be great for samplers though.

This is a fantastic idea! If you have a apothecary store in your town, you can find these lipstick balm containers for about 30 cents or thereabouts, IIRC.

I will surely pick some up and whip out some mini shave sticks.

What soap did you use, btw? The only glycerin soap I've melted is VdH, but I'd like to use something more deluxe than that. Anyone know if C&E Nomad pucks can be melted in this way?

If you're traveling or camping for a week or less, I don't see that you'd need anything bigger. Traveling light is great!

I to have used a similar method with good results. It only lasts for a week or two of shaves but it is awesome to be able to only carry around a small lip balm tube instead of a large container or puck.

I just loaded an empty glue stick. Works awesome. The one used is a bit small but it was a test and it's easily transferred to a large container if I like using it this way. I would find the lip balm container too small to work properly but YMMV.
The empty deodorant container seems like a great idea.

I have wondered how well the travel sized deoderant tubes would work? Bigger than lip balm smaller than regular deoderant.
