How to introduce others to Wet Shaving?

My younger brother needs to start wet shaving, but despite all my attempts to convince him, I haven't been able to get him to try it out yet. Despite the punishment he suffers from using goo and a sensor excel, I haven't been able to get him to use a brush and cream yet? He's got 20 pounds on me so brute force is no longer an option. What do I do?

Wet shaving is not for everyone... some people simply like to get in and out when it comes to shaving. Maybe show him your routine one morning? Let him know the great shaves and the savings you can get with a DE razor.

Steal his crap and replace it with good stuff. Unless you're scared of voilent retribution, he should at least try it that way!

As far as I know, my son dry shaves with disposable multi-blades. He'll be home for the summer soon. I guess there's no harm in trying.

if someone is satisfies with their current routine, it will be hard to change them. I got into this because I knew there had to be a better way to shave. I actually got my brother some Proraso for Christmas one year, and then got him a brush. He said he liked it but still uses canned stuff and plastic razor. He may have just used it all up.

I think the biggest selling points are 1. the cost (discounting any RADs) 2. the scents and 3. the improvement in the health of your skin.

I like stealing and replacing option. I feel coercive tactics are always appropriate with younger brothers no matter how old you are.

Try to avoid direct confrontation. You really should be sneaky, as others alreay have said. A mild razor, which ideally you can spare from your rotation, is best for the beginning.

Lots of us here don't mind the Sensor Excel as a substitute for a good SE or DE. I would lead by going after the canned goo first. Point out that it's mostly alcohol and propane gas with artificial foaming agents, colors, and that it was originally created as a weak-but-quick substitute for a proper lather.

You can get him to use a brush and soap more easily than you can get him to give up the cartridges, and you won't be asking him to learn any new razor technique.

Wet shaving, among most people, still has the image of being archaic, inefficient, and dangerous. If someone doesn’t care enough about their face, they’re not going to bother even considering wet shaving. I believe that those who care will seek it out on their own.

Gents...beer snob that I am, I must admit that I enjoy PBR in a bottle with BBQ like nothing else.

Did you mean to post this in the Confessional thread...?

(oh, and hell yeah, +1 on this -- Tripel or Doppelbock doesn't go well with barbecue)

He's your younger brother? Have you tried holding him down and shaving half of his face with his razor and half with your DE? You might not want to try this with a straight.

Haha. I wish. Alas, he is 6'5" 210lbs. I'm 6'4" 180. Last time, I tried fighting him he won handily even with my jiu jitsu skills. However, I was pushing black out drunkeness, so maybe I could try again.

Anyone tried the Mesquite Smokehouse Shiner? It's a very good Rauchen which went very well with the Nathan's dogs the youngest and I roasted over a fire the other night.

And this is a turn off how? Everyone needs a little danger, that's why I've recently made the move to shaving with a straight occasionally.

Says you! I think you're nuts personally. Crappy beer and barbecue? Yuck! :prrr:

Well, I still agree with you, even in the wrong thread.

Wrong thread and wrong answer. If you want something light tasting to go with barbecue, why not something like a nice Czech Pilsner?

No, but I am intrigued. Where'd you get this stuff?

Let me rephrase that then: Most people nowadays think that modern disposables are better and more efficent then wet shaving. Logic usually has it that technology improves various aspects of our lives, so it's very difficult for many people to believe that a newer, more technologically advanced method could be worse.
